Pokemon GO is celebrating the Timeless Travels season by bringing the Along the Routes event. The event introduces a new NPC, Mateo, and the Gift Exchange feature for players. The main focus for Along the Routes is to explore different routes and participate in Gift Exchange with worldwide trainers.
The Pokemon GO Along the Routes event starts on Tuesday, December 5, at 10 AM and ends on Friday, December 8, at 8 PM Local Time. The event offers several wild Pokemon, and Shiny Hisuian Sneasel and its evolution, Shiny Sneasler, are also making their debut. Pokemon GO Along the Routes - All Field Research Tasks And Rewards
The Along the Routes event presents 3 Research quests: Field Research, A Route to New Friendships Special Research Story, and an Event-exclusive Timed Research. Pokemon GO players can also get different bonuses for participating, from 1/2 Egg Hatch Distance in Incubator during the event to 5× XP for the first-time spin at a PokeStop.
The Along the Routes Field Research quest has multiple tasks and rewards. There are 5 tasks, and completing each reward with an item and different encounters. Players also have a chance to encounter Shiny Hisuian Sneasel and get Pokemon GO items like Great Balls and Poke Balls.

Pokemon GO: How To Gift Exchange Through Mateo
The Along the Routes introduces Mateo, a researcher facilitating the Gift Exchange feature. Mateo collects and exchanges Postcards and Gifts from around the world. One can encounter Mateo at the end of a Pokemon GO Route, where the NPC provides Gifts to those approaching the endpoint. That said, it is possible to engage in a daily Gift Exchange with Mateo; here is how to do it.
- Initiate a Gift Exchange by talking to Mateo.
- Select a Gift from Mateo, choosing from the Route's end or start point or a PokeStop in the vicinity.
- Adding a sticker is optional; one can then proceed to select Exchange.
- Pokemon GO trainers can then receive a new memento from another trainer.
- Adding new Postcards to the collection is essential to get various Vivillon forms.
