New leaks about the potential setting of the 10th generation Pokemon games have fans talking about the possibilities the potential location yields. Though still unconfirmed, one popular Scarlet and Violet theory does support the new Pokemon Generation 10 leaks. Recently, popular Pokemon leaker Centro Leaks ‘confirmed’ that Generation 10 will take place in the Greek Cyclades, an island archipelago located in the Aegean Sea. This information has not been commented on by any official channels, so it should be met with some skepticism. However, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet may have teased a Greek region already, lending some credibility to this particular rumor.

Game Freak has a history of leaving clues about the next Pokemon game’s setting hidden in plain sight. With this in mind, keen-eyed players were already on the lookout for potential Easter Eggs. One popular theory suggested a painting predicted the Pokemon Gen 10 setting, depicting “a far away region” that resembles a European street. Initially, players believed this tease was pointing towards an Italian region, but due to their proximity and similar cultures, the painting may still be teasing the Greek location.

Pokemon's rumored region for its Gen 10 games could be the ideal setting to continue a type trend that started with Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

What Does Pokemon’s New Greek Location Mean?

Even though it’s not the location many fans were expecting, the Cyclades does have the makings of an excellent, and possibly familiar, Pokemon region. Many have been quick to point out that the Hoenn region in Gen 3 is an archipelago as well, which pushes some away from the location because of the over-abundance of Water-type Pokemon. But, with the open-world style of Pokemon games introduced in Scarlet and Violet, a new take on an island-centric region could work in ways that weren’t possible in Gen 3. Some believe the islands could be the main focus, offering the majority of gameplay, leaving the water routes between them less important.

While the scenery might resemble an older generation, many players are excited about the elements of Greek culture that might find their way into the games. In particular, Greek mythology-inspired Pokemon seem like an obvious inclusion. The various gods and monsters of myth, such as the minotaur or the sphinx, have strong designs that could inspire excellent new Pokemon. The gods, like Zeus, Hades, or Poseidon, could also be inspiration for the game’s Legendary Pokemon, mixing the in-game legends with real-world ones in a unique and interesting way.

All leaks and rumors regarding Pokemon's 10th generation games are still unconfirmed, and should be taken with a grain of salt.

Pokemon Inspired by Greek Myths

The newest Pokemon introduced in each region typically have some major inspiration from the setting's real-world counterpart, so it seems natural that Greek mythology could seep into the new designs. Some of the more well-known monsters may be mirrored in the starter trio’s final forms. Mythical Pokemon also tend to have existing ties to mythology, and would be a natural way to include this type of inspiration. Some fans have also pointed out certain Pokemon who could receive cross-generation evolutions, such as Hydreigon, who is based on the hydra, and Houndoom, who could get a new form inspired by Cerberus.

While fans may have been expecting, or even hoping, to see an Italian region, the similarities between Greek and Roman myth mean some of these designs could have applied in either case. It’s an unusual case when a tease such as the Scarlet and Violet painting is properly identified, but erroneously interpreted, but it has led to a welcome surprise for fans. If true, the Greek location leak validates theorists for coming close, but still offers Pokemon fans an exciting surprise. With the many potential new Mega Evolutions from Pokemon Legends Z-A, regional forms, and convergent evolutions, a Greek region would be a pleasure to explore whenever the Generation 10 games arrive.
