In Pokemon FireRed & LeafGreen there's no automatic EXP Share, so players will need to rediscover the old-fashioned way to make their team members level up in unison. The way to accomplish this is by getting a particular item that needs to be obtained before players can start using this cool mechanic.

Here's the location of the EXP Share in Pokemon FireRed & LeafGreen, and a comprehensive guide on how to use it to make your Pokemon team grow stronger faster.

Pokemon FireRed LeafGreen EXP Share How it Works

To get the EXP Share, players will need to first access Fuschia City by completing the Team Rocket Hideout encounter in Celadon, then getting the Silph Scope, and ultimately the Poke Flute needed to wake up Snorlax.

Once in Fuschia, travel east towards Route 15, and enter the gate building that grants access to the route. Climb the stairs to find one of Professor Oak's assistants, who will tell players about a reward for completing 50 entries in the Pokedex.

Trainers should have enough Pokemon by now, so they will automatically receive the EXP Share. This is a held item, so players need to give it to a Pokemon, which will receive up to 50% of the EXP gained by the active Pokemon during battle.

The EXP Share is a great way to level up faster, and also, a requisite to train Pokemon with weaker early stages like Magikarp or Dratini. Although the Nursery can also help with that.

If players are still missing the 50 entries needed to access this Professor Oak reward, there's a place they can visit called The Safari Zone, also in Fuschia City. Entering the Safari zone will cost them the whopping sum of 5000 Pokedollars, but it's money well invested.

Players can catch lots of Pokemon in this area, including the rare Scyther/Pinsir (depending on their version), Chansey, Dratini, Rhyhorn, Kangaskhan, Cubone, Exeggcute, Exeggutor, Paras, Parasect, and all the Nidoran line (except its final stages, which can be obtained using a Moon Stone). So, there's a lot of Pokemon to hunt there, but players can only use Safari Balls, and are unable to weaken Pokemon.

The trick lies in knowing which Pokemon can be taunted or tamed using the Rock and the Bait gimmick. Players should throw rocks at Pokemon to make them easier to catch (but this can also make them flee), and bait Pokémon to make them less likely to flee (in exchange, they will be harder to catch).

Pokemon that tend to flee more often, like Dratini should be given bait, even though this will make it even harder to flee. On the contrary, a Rhyhorn is less likely to flee, but hard to catch, so they should throw a stone at it. That's how they can increase their chances of catching the Pokemon instead of making them flee.
