Summary

  • Two Pokemon fans recreated the Kanto region in Minecraft, showcasing iconic locations and landscapes from the Pokemon franchise.
  • The project took over a year to complete with the help of mods like Pixelmon.
  • Other gamers have utilized Minecraft to make creative Pokemon tributes.

The Kanto region has been meticulously recreated in Minecraft thanks to the hard work of a couple of skilled players. Even though the worlds of Pokemon and Minecraft might appear vastly different, this Kanto recreation translates incredibly well to the blocky art style of Mojang’s game.

While the Pokemon series has gone to various regions throughout its nine generations, the Kanto region is where it all began for the games. Thanks to its long history in the franchise, many fans have become nostalgic for Kanto. As a result, the Pokemon community has frequently created tributes to the region and its Pokemon through fan art over the years. Recently, a couple of fans chose to use Minecraft to showcase their love for this part of the Pokemon world.

Taking to Reddit, a user known as The_Shador shared screenshots of their incredible recreation of the Kanto region made in Minecraft with the help of their brother. As the images attest, the players replicated the buildings and landscape of the iconic region of the Pokemon world. For example, the Minecraft world featured the cities and routes visited in the games, such as Viridian City, Pewter City, and Cerulean City, to name a few. The players built other iconic locations in fine detail, including Viridian Forest and Mt. Moon.

Pokemon Fans' Kanto Region Recreation in Minecraft

When posting the creation to the Pokemon subreddit, The_Shador gave some background on the creation process. According to the player, they used Minecraft mods to help complete the enormous project. For instance, they said Pixelmon, a mod that adds a wide range of Pokemon-related content, was used in the creation. The player also noted the entire project took over a year to complete, revealing their brother was the only other person involved in the project.

Since sharing the post online, many fans have taken notice. The Reddit post has garnered hundreds of upvotes, and many in the community have weighed in on the project. In the comments, many users wondered how long it would take to finish such an ambitious project. Fortunately, The_Shador responded, saying it took a year to complete Kanto. While the creator said the world is not available to download due to complications with the many mods used, they shared an over two-hour YouTube video that walked through the region recreation.

Given the immense creativity in Minecraft, it is not surprising that other Pokemon fans have utilized the game as a canvas to create impressive artwork as well. For example, another Minecraft player created statues of Groudon and Kyogre using the game’s different blocks. With Pokemon Legends Z-A going to Kalos, it will be interesting to see if The_Shador or other fans decide to make homages to region in Minecraft.

Minecraft is a game made up of blocks, creatures, and community. You can survive the night or build a work of art – the choice is all yours. But if the thought of exploring a vast new world all on your own feels overwhelming, then fear not!

Minecraft has no set goal and can be played however you’d like! This is why it’s sometimes called a “sandbox game” – there are lots of things for you to do, and lots of ways that you can play. If you like being creative, then you can use the blocks to build things from your imagination. If you’re feeling brave, you can explore the world and face daring challenges. Blocks can be broken, crafted, placed to reshape the landscape, or used to build fantastical creations.

Creatures can be battled or befriended, depending on how you play. The world of Minecraft allows for epic adventures, quiet meditations, and everything in between. You can even share your creations with other players, or play in community worlds!
