One highly skilled Pokemon fan has gone through the effort of designing an adorable new version of Chikorita styled as a chocolate-inspired pocket monster. Dubbed Chokorita, the unique concept recently made the rounds online, further underlining the astounding creativity of the Pokemon fandom.
As far as fan art inspired by this beloved franchise is concerned, Pokemon redesigns have long been among the most popular such projects, as evidenced by the fact that countless reimaginings of this sort continue to emerge online on a daily basis. But even among the crowd that routinely authors such artwork, few are as prolific as MunchyColors; this 2D artist put together over a hundred distinct creature redesigns in the last 12 months alone, ranging from colorful renditions of Teddiursa to some utterly adorable forms of the ice cream Pokemon Vanillite.
Not long after designing Halloween versions of the Kanto starters, MunchyColors set his sights on reimagining the Generation 2 starter Chickorita. The end result of his creative effort yielded an impossibly cute creature that looks like it's been dipped in liquid candy, boasting a biscuit-colored body and chocolate dripping from the leaf on its head. Whereas the original Johto region starter features small flower buds around its neck, this inventive redesign has a necklace made of tiny strawberries, further leaning into the delectable concept that inspired it.
MunchyColors named his Chickorita rendition Chokorita in a clear effort to capture the essence of the newly shared redesign. The artwork itself boasts all of the hallmarks of the prolific artist's signature style, including a vivid color palette and liberal use of the silver ratio (1:414), which is often employed in making cute, roundish faces. Taking to Reddit, MunchyColors described his latest Pokemon concept as a "desert-type" Chikorita, whether in reference to the light brown, almost sand-like color of the creature's body, or as a typo that meant to say "dessert."
This was far from the artist's first attempt at making a popular Pokemon look more delectable; earlier this week, MunchyColors took to Instagram to share a Mudkip concept that reimagined the Generation 3 starter as a hot cocoa-inspired creature. The artist also revealed an equally tasty-looking Wooloo with a Christmas cream texture shortly beforehand.
Another variation on that theme surfaced online back in November, when MunchyColors put together neat winter-themed versions of the Pokemon mascot Bulbasaur. Those half a dozen designs included an ice cream rendition of the creature, as well as one inspired by a cup of hot chocolate.
