A Pokemon fan animation depicts what an encounter with Articuno, one of the three legendary bird Pokemon, would look like. In the first generation of Pokemon games, alongside Mewtwo and Mew, three legendary creatures were introduced in the form of the fire bird Moltres, the lightning bird Zapdos, and the ice bird Articuno. Since Pokemon's first generation, those three have become icons of the franchise. While they might not be Pokemon's strongest legendaries, they certainly have a memorable design and many players strongly remember their first encounter with one of these winged beasts.
The three Pokemon proved to be so popular that Zapdos, Moltres, and Articuno were given redesigns in Pokemon Sword and Shield, the eighth generation of mainline games. Of course, due to this popularity, a lot of fan creations have also appeared that center around the three legendary birds. On some occasions, all three of them are featured in one piece, while at other times, a fan will pick their favorite to focus on.
Recently, a Pokemon fan known as MrFrtc on Reddit showed off what they think a cinematic encounter with Articuno could look like. The animated clip, which runs for about a minute, opens with a player character standing atop an icy mountain. Surrounding them are plenty of ice-type Pokemon, including an Avalugg, lots of Spheals, and a few Abomasnow sprinkled in. With a unique Cubone fixed firmly to their head, the protagonist walks towards a gravestone which has a letter sitting next to it.
The letter is from the character's father and references a "blue bird." With perfect timing, Articuno then swoops in, flying directly in front of the animated character before disappearing again into the snowy region. Apart from showing a cool and unique interaction with a legendary Pokemon, it seems this animation may also be a form of fan request for another Pokemon Legends game, as the title of the Reddit post by MrFrtc is "Pokemon, forgotten legends."
Since the success of Pokemon Legends: Arceus, plenty of fans have been wanting another game set in the franchise's past. While the secrets of the Kanto region could be interesting to see, there are some other contenders for regions that could make great Pokemon Legends titles. The Alola region has also been highlighted as having unique lore that would make for a different kind of Pokemon Legends game, for example. A new Pokemon Legends is likely some years away, however, as currently Game Freak appears entirely focused on Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
Pokemon Legends Arceus is available on Switch .
