Summary
- Platyduck, a convergent form of Psyduck, resembles a platypus with gray features and a different tail shape, delighting Pokemon fans.
- Fans admire the Platyduck's design, envisioning it as a Water/Poison-type Pokemon that produces oil from its fur for defense.
- Despite Psyduck's popularity, it lacks alternate forms like Convergent Forms, sparking creativity from fans like Just-Drawing-Mons.
A Pokemon fan has created a cute Psyduck Convergent Form. As it has never received an alternate form like a Convergent Form or Paradox Form, Pokemon fans have sometimes stepped in to share their ideas on what they could eventually look like.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet introduced Convergent Forms, which are essentially Pokemon look-alikes that aren't actually related to the original Pokemon they share similarities with. For example, Diglett and Wiglett look like variations of the same Pokemon, just with different biomes and coloring. However, the Pokemon are unrelated to each other, and share no connection when it comes to evolving.
Pokemon Fan Crochets Adorable Sleepy Psyduck
A talented Pokemon fan creates an adorable crochet plush of Psyduck, depicting the fan-favorite Duck Pokemon sleeping peacefully.
Now, Pokemon fan Just-Drawing-Mons has created a design for a Convergent Psyduck called Platyduck. As the name implies, this Convergent Psyduck design is based off of a platypus, a real-world creature that has a duck-like bill, beaver-like tail, and a body akin to an otter, all while being an egg-laying mammal. While Psyduck is a Duck Pokemon, its design has often been compared to platypuses, so it makes sense to lean into that for its Convergent Form.
Highlighting Psyduck's Platypus-Like Qualities
Platyduck looks a lot like Psyduck, but has different coloring and some variations to its overall shape. Its bill, feet, and portions of its wings and tail have turned gray, while little pink spots have been added to its cheeks and the tip of its tail. Its tail has been replaced by one much more like a playtpus's, with a larger and rounder shape. Its front wings also appear to have been lengthened slightly. Beyond that, the Platyduck maintains the blank expression and three little hairs on its head that Psyduck is known for.
Pokemon fans seem to be amused by the design, with one stating that it's perfect. Another attempted to create a Pokedex entry for the Platyduck, calling it a Flatfooted Water/Poison-type Pokemon. In their dex entry, the Platyduck produces oil from its fur that lets it move more efficiently through water and deter predators with a bad taste.
While Psyduck isn't hugely effective in difficult Pokemon battles, the Pokemon has nonetheless remained a fan favorite due in large part to its design and behavior in the Pokemon anime. With other Gen 1 Pokemon getting Convergent or Paradox Forms in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, it would be nice to see Psyduck get something new in the future. With so many Pokemon in the series already, it's hard to tell where Game Freak will turn its attention to next, so fans will just have to see if the headache-prone Duck Pokemon gets its time to shine.
