Pokemon Fan Creates Impressive Crochet Version of Charizard

A talented Pokemon fan flexed their creative muscles with a game-accurate crocheted recreation of the iconic Charizard, impressing other fans online with their detailed handiwork. The fan creation closely resembles Charizard as he appears in the Pokemon video games, while its pose references that of the official art found in the series' tie-in trading card game.

Charizard is one of the most iconic Pokemon of all time, having debuted back in the original Pokemon Red and Blue on the Game Boy, where he appeared as the final form of Charmander, one of the creatures the player can attain at the start of the game. The Fire and Flying-type dragon also played a prominent role in the series' tie-in anime and appears on the face of one of the most valuable Pokemon trading cards of all time.

Reddit user andre4k shared a few images of their crocheted version of Charizard to the official Pokemon subreddit, depicting it standing up with its neck extended and its mouth open wide. The fan's crochet iteration of Charizard was seemingly based directly on the pose it makes in the trading card, evident by their own card presented in front of it to show the similarities between them.

Fans in the comments were clearly impressed with their work, as some showed up to praise the creator's talents, compliment their choice of pose, and ask about how they managed to make it. According to the user, they made the crocheted Charizard without the use of a pattern to give them instructions, similar to the Magikarp beanie another fan made seemingly by hand.

Unfortunately for Charizard fans, the user did not create a pattern for their crochet creation, so anyone looking to make something similar will have to rely on other references and make it freehand. Of course, there are a multitude of mediums out there to make custom and unique Pokemon fan art, like one fan who used stained glass to make a Lapras decoration.

Charizard is already a common subject for fan art due to its multitude of appearances throughout the series, even having received two separate Mega Evolution forms in Pokemon X and Y. As such, it may come as no surprise to the larger community that the Pokemon is so popular among artists, as the fire-breathing dragon continues to reign as one of the most iconic creatures across the whole franchise.
