Build-a-Bear and Pokemon are teaming up once more, introducing a new Pokemon Scarlet and Violet starter to the collection. Quaxly will be joining the line-up at Build-a-Bear, completing the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet collection of starters available from the customizable plush shop.
Pokemon and Build-a-Bear have a full decade of collaborations together in their history, kicking off with series mascot Pikachu way back in December 2015. Since then, tons of Pokemon plushes have been introduced by the brand, with the most recent addition to the store being a Build-a-Bear Ponyta revealed earlier in January. Now, another Pokemon is ready to join fans' collections.
The First LEGO Pokemon Sets Have Been Revealed
LEGO and the Pokemon Company reveal the first sets of 2026, giving fans a first look at the sets, launch date, prices, and a trainer challenge.
Pokemon and Build-a-Bear Reveal Quaxly
Pokemon fans can now check out Quaxly at Build-a-Bear. The duckling Pokemon is available for purchase immediately, with the plush bundle going for $59.50 on the Build-a-Bear website. As is usual for the toys, Quaxly is a sitting plush that comes with some accessories and extras. The Build-a-Bear logo is present on its right foot, while the Pokemon also comes equipped with a removable orange and blue tank-top. When purchased online as part of the bundle, Quaxly also includes an audio chip that plays five different sound clips of the Pokemon.
Fans of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet and Build-a-Bear toys will likely be happy to finally be able to finish their starter collection. Sprigatito, the Grass-type feline Pokemon, was the first of the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet starters to join the Build-a-Bear line-up in 2023, with a Fuecoco Build-a-Bear following in 2024. They've been far from alone, though. In the same period of time, Build-a-Bear has also released Pokemon plushes like Mimikyu, Mudkip, Charizard, Bidoof, Munchlax, Cubone, Riolu, Yamper, Wooloo, and Litten.
Quaxly also has the distinction of being the least-expensive Pokemon Scarlet and Violet starter among the Build-a-Bears. Sprigatito is currently in-stock and available for $63 on the Build-a-Bear website, while Fuecoco is the most expensive at $74.50. However, both Sprigatito and Fuecoco's bundles ship with an audio chip and two outfits each, while Quaxly has only one, which is likely the reason for the pricing differences. All three of them are significantly less expensive than the Gengar and Charizard Build-a-Bear giant plushes, however, which are both currently available online for $149.00.
It's a Pokemon Year Within and Beyond Build-a-Bear
It's clear that the Build-a-Bear and Pokemon partnership has been fruitful for both companies, given that it's gone on for a decade now. It's highly likely that more Pokemon will be added to the collection this year, and perhaps more than usual, as this is Pokemon's 30th anniversary. Celebrations will be held year-round, with the biggest announcements and reveals likely arriving on February 27, which marks annual Pokemon Day. Though there have already been many Pokemon offered at Build-a-Bear, with over a thousand now in the franchise, there's still more than enough popular picks for the plush store to bring to life.
While much about Pokemon's anniversary is still being kept under wraps, there are some upcoming titles that players can expect to learn more about. Pokemon Pokopia will be right around the corner by Pokemon Day, and the first Gen 10 games, believed to be titled Pokemon Wind and Wave, are highly likely to be at least teased on Pokemon Day. The Pokemon Teraleak of 2025 indicated that the games will have some surprising new features, like procedurally generated islands set in the Pokemon world equivalent of Southeast Asia. Some Pokemon are receiving new models and even Pikachu is said to get something of a redesign. While leaks and rumors can't be confirmed with 100% certainty, it seems like the next generation of Pokemon is planning on shaking up the formula a bit.
