Gamers on PlayStation and Xbox will soon have another co-op game to play, as We Were Here Forever is finally making its ways to consoles early next year. We Were Here Forever is the fourth game in the We Were Here series, a unique online-only co-op franchise that started in 2017 with We Were Here. The first game was followed by We Were Here Too in 2018 and We Were Here Together in 2019, with We Were Here Forever releasing earlier this year for PC.
We Were Here Forever has been available to PC gamers since May of this year. It retains the franchise's signature online co-op focused puzzle solving, with players having to communicate with each other to escape a foreboding Antarctic castle. It's one of the rare games, like Hazelight's It Takes Two, that must be played in co-op - there is no single-player options available. It should also be pointed out that We Were Here Forever does not have any local co-op options either, so anyone interested in playing through it must do so online.
The We Were Here Forever PlayStation and Xbox release date is January 31, at which point it will launch for all currently available PlayStation (PS4 and PS5) and Xbox (Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S) consoles. We Were Here Forever has crossplay support, so PlayStation gamers can play with Xbox gamers and vice versa, which should be a convenient feature for co-op gaming fans.
The PC version of We Were Here Forever earned mostly positive reviews when it launched earlier this year, and there's no reason to think that the console versions of the game will have a different reception, barring any unforeseen technical issues. Co-op gamers on console will certainly want to give it a look, though they may want to play the other games in the series before diving into We Were Here Forever in January.
While co-op gamers on console wait for We Were Here Forever's console release date, they can not only play the original games, but they may want to check out some other co-op centric titles as well. Aside from the previously mentioned It Takes Two, Hazelight's A Way Out is another game that is co-op focused. So too is the escape room-style puzzle game Escape Academy that released earlier this year. Escape Academy, for those interested, is readily available on Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass subscription service, so Xbox gamers can check it out at a comparatively low price.
