During its latest State of Play presentation, Sony announced five new virtual reality games for the PlayStation VR2 that will be released later this year. The PlayStation VR2 is out now, and a library of over 30 games is already available to download and play. Even more virtual reality games will be coming to PlayStation VR2 in the weeks and months ahead, with today's State of Play adding even more exciting and surprising projects.
Thursday's State of Play presentation was packed with first and third-party game announcements for the PlayStation 5. The biggest showcases of the event were Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Destiny 2: Lightfall's latest trailer, and Resident Evil 4, but many more exciting games were also shown. A new trailer for Baldur's Gate 3 was unveiled, three Street Fighter 6 characters were announced, and even a new Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm made an appearance. There's a lot for PlayStation 5 users to be excited about, in addition to VR.
The five new virtual reality games announced during the State of Play include The Foglands, Synapse, Journey to Foundation, Green Hell VR, and the award-winning title Before Your Eyes. Before Your Eyes is perhaps the standout of the group. It originally launched in 2021 and was met with resounding critical acclaim. In Before Your Eyes, players experience someone's entire life in first-person, progressing through meaningful moments in the blink of an eye. PlayStation VR2 players will get to play it starting March 10.

All four additional VR announcements are exciting, too. In The Foglands, players get a tense shooter roguelike set in a strange sci-fi western world. Green Hell VR is a survival game tasking players to survive in a jungle while under constant threat, crafting food and shelter while battling predators. Synapse is a new action-shooter from the creators of Fracked, mixing in telekinesis-driven physics-based combat. Lastly, Journey to Foundation is inspired by Isaac Asimov's classic sci-fi books, offering a narrative adventure as the player becomes a galactic spymaster.
Before Your Eyes is unfortunately the only game of the five to have a firm release date at this time. All four other games, Journey to Foundation, Green Hell VR, Synapse, and The Foglands, are tentatively planned for later this year. There should be plenty of PlayStation VR2 titles available in the interim to keep players busy, but it may be disappointing for some VR fans hoping today's announcements would arrive more quickly.
In the end, what matters most is that Sony keeps the pipeline of PlayStation VR2 games flowing. Bringing over PC or Meta Quest VR games that may not have been available on PlayStation VR, as well as offering new titles as they launch, will ensure that PlayStation VR2 has a healthy and successful run. The PS5 and PlayStation VR2 will hopefully have a productive future together.
