After weeks of rumors and leaks, Sony has now confirmed that a new PlayStation State of Play event focused entirely on 007 First Light will take place on September 3. While many fans were likely hoping for an update on the likes of Marvel's Wolverine or Saros, PlayStation has now revealed that the next State of Play will be a dedicated deep dive into IO Interactive's highly anticipated James Bond game, 007 First Light.
After becoming the masters of the stealth genre with numerous Hitman games over the years, IO Interactive is giving fans the first James Bond game in fourteen years with 007 First Light. The title was a huge surprise to James Bond fans and was initially revealed to the world with its first trailer during the PlayStation State of Play event in June. Currently, there's no release date for 007 First Light outside of its 2026 window, but PlayStation and IO Interactive have now confirmed that a new deep dive on the game will take place this week, which could reveal some big details.

PlayStation State of Play Confirmed for September 3
Last month, industry insider and journalist Jeff Grubb revealed that Sony was planning a new State of Play event for September. And with the start of the new month officially here, Sony has wasted no time in confirming the news. Unfortunately, there won't be any updates on the likes of Marvel's Wolverine or other highly anticipated PlayStation exclusives, as the studio has announced that the next State of Play, which will take place on September 3, will be dedicated to 007 First Light. According to a new blog post, the event will begin at 11am PT / 7pm BST / 8pm CEST and will feature over 30 minutes of gameplay from 007 First Light.
Yann Roskell, the Senior Global Communication Manager for IO Interactive, announced that the event will reveal gameplay featuring a playthrough of Bond’s first mission as an MI6 recruit in 007 First Light, with everything from high-speed car chases to on-foot stealth sequences and shootouts. It's unclear if there will also be further details revealed, such as a release date and cast list. Following the game's announcement earlier this year, fans were desperate to know who the new James Bond in 007 First Light was, but IO Interactive says it has kept that information secret as it "wants people to care about the game first."
Those who are eager to see more of 007 First Light will no doubt be delighted by the dedicated showcase, but those who wanted one last look at Ghost of Yotei before its release in October may be left disappointed. The good news, however, is that Ghost of Yotei will be joining Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls at the Tokyo Game Show 2025, which will take place between September 25 - 28 in Makuhari Messe, Chiba, Japan.
