Retired PlayStation boss, Shuhei Yoshida, gives a major shout-out to OMUT by hailing the indie game as one of the hardest ever. The upcoming horror game is among the latest projects to have caught the interest of the former PlayStation bigwig, who is known to have a knack for independently developed titles.

In his final years at PlayStation, Yoshida fulfilled his job responsibilities as the head of the company's indie division. In doing so, the Japanese industry veteran oversaw the inception of multiple incubator programs—called Hero Projects—in China, India, and the MENA region. During this spell, Yoshida frequently gave shout-outs to indie games on social media to draw attention to them. While his official duties at PlayStation may have already ended in January, the industry icon continues to regularly compliment noteworthy indie projects. Most recently, he gave a remarkably positive opinion on OMUT, briefly summing up its unique selling point.

On Twitter, Shuhei Yoshida said that OMUT will be "one of the hardest games" people have ever played. In addition to highlighting the horror title's challenging nature, he also said that players "won't be able to put it down" either, hinting at the game's quality. Apparently, this outlook stems from the PlayStation legend's experience with the game at the recently concluded Summer Game Fest.

Shuhei Yoshida Hails Indie Horror Game OMUT's Difficulty

Developed by Madame Cyclone, OMUT is an upcoming 2D side-scrolling horror game with shoot-em-up gameplay for PC. It has a dark tone, akin to games like Playdead's Inside, and draws inspiration from "hardcore indie games" released in the early 2010s. Even though the game doesn't have a specific release date yet, it has been confirmed that it will be rolling out on both Steam and the Epic Games Store.

While OMUT received notable praise from Yoshida, it isn't the only upcoming game that has left an impression on him. Among the future releases that got the Shuhei Yoshida stamp of approval on social media are Sword of the Sea, Lumines Arise, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, Deadpool VR, Out of Words, Beast of Reincarnation, and LEGO Party. In particular, he described Giant Squid's Sword of the Sea as his "favorite game" from the Summer Game Fest.

Back in April, Blue Prince, a puzzle game touted early by Yoshida as a Game of the Year contender, came out and garnered rave reviews. On September 8, the former PlayStation exec's most anticipated game of 2025, Baby Steps, will release on PC and PS5.
