PlayStation has been pretty consistent with its PC strategy over the last few years. Beginning with Horizon Zero Dawn all the way back in 2020, PlayStation has continued to slowly port most of its first-party IP to Steam and the Epic Games Store in the years since, with Uncharted, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, Marvel's Spider-Man, The Last of Us, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, and even Days Gone all receiving PC ports.
In just the last year, both God of War Ragnarok and Helldivers 2 have come to PC, with the latter releasing on PC at the same time as its console counterpart, marking a new layer of the strategy that will see live-service games release simultaneously on PC and PS5. PlayStation's PC strategy shows no signs of stopping anytime soon, with another two ports waiting in the wings ahead of their January release dates.
Two Huge PlayStation Ports Are Coming to PC in January 2025
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Makes The Journey to PC on January 23
Announced during this month's Game Awards, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be heading to Steam and the Epic Games Store on January 23, 2025. For those who haven't played it yet, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is the follow-up to 2020's Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which itself is the first part of a reimagining of the 1997 original.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth follows Cloud Strife, Tifa, Barret, Aerith, and the rest of the ragtag remnants of Avalanche as they go on a hunt to find the mysterious Masamune-wielding Sephiroth, who wreaked havoc on Shinra's headquarters at the end of the last game. This globe-trotting adventure will let players explore small open-world sections of the Grasslands outside Midgar, Cosmo Canyon, Costa del Sol, and other vibrant locales.
PC players with a powerful enough system will be able to enjoy Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth in all its 120 FPS glory, and will be able to use NVIDIA DLSS to enhance the image quality and framerate. While it hasn't been confirmed if it'll be available on launch day, Square Enix has stated it's in the process of optimizing Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth for the Steam Deck, so hopefully a Verified version will be available soon.
If fans buy Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PC before its January 23, 2025 release date, they'll get a handy 30% off the retail price.
The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is also coming to PC next year, set to release on April 3, 2025.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Swings Onto PC on January 30
Just a week after Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's PC release, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will swing in and join it. Also available via Steam and the Epic Games Store, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will launch on PC on January 30, letting players continue the series' story, which was last added to in 2020 with Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 sees players suit up as both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, the two Spider-Men of New York City. As the wall-crawling duo, players will need to stop Kraven and his band of hunters from terrorizing the city and its inhabitants, and along the way, face off against the relentless Venom.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2's PC port is being worked on by Nixxes Software, the same devs behind the first two Spider-Man PC ports and virtually every other PlayStation PC port of the last two years. While Nixxes hasn't confirmed any concrete performance upgrades, it has stated that Spider-Man 2's PC port will receive "enhanced ray-tracing options" and other "enhanced features."
