With the recent news that The Last of Us Part 2 will be receiving a PS5 upgrade, PlayStation fans are now calling for the first two Infamous games to get the remake treatment from PlayStation Studios. When the first game was released, it became an instant hit for Sony and Sucker Punch studios and spun into a successful franchise. The last entry, Infamous First Light, was released on the PS4 in 2014.
The Infamous franchise started life on the PlayStation 3 in 2009, and the first two entries put players in the shoes of Cole MacGrath, a powered individual who can absorb electrical energy. Players were not only given large cities to roam around in, but the games implemented a karma system, with the outcome of both games dictating how the story ended. Since neither the PS4 nor PS5 cannot natively play PS3 games, for most players the first two Infamous games are locked to the aging console.
5 Older PlayStation Exclusives That Need Remasters More Than The Last of Us 2
Rumors suggest that a The Last of Us 2 remaster is in the works, but there are other PlayStation exclusives that are better suited for a revamp.
A user on Reddit by the name of OGGamer6 has expressed their desire for Infamous 1 and 2 to get the full remake treatment. Despite the games being backwards compatible thanks to cloud streaming on the PlayStation Plus Premium tier, OGGamer6 notes that the titles are showing their age to the point they’d even settle for a simple 1080p/60FPS remaster of the games.
The post has sparked interest from like-minded fans who would also like to see the action-adventure game find a new audience on the PS5. While the PlayStation 4 did get Infamous Second Son and First Light, these titles represented a narrative shift in the games and featured new characters, which many thought didn’t live up to Cole’s original story.
Fans of Infamous are in for a long wait for the next entry in the superhero series, that is if it ever even happens. Sucker Punch confirmed the studio has no plans to revisit the Infamous franchise any time soon, as it is focusing on the follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima. This update was published in 2022, so it is certainly possible that Sucker Punch has reevaluated this possibility, or that any remasters be handled by another Sony-owned company such as the developers Nixxes. However, this is purely wishful thinking.
With developers enjoying successful remakes of games like Final Fantasy 7, fans like OGGamer6 are proof that there is still demand for the two classic PS3 titles. However improbable a remake or remaster may seem at the moment, time will tell if players ever return to the world of Infamous.
