As one of the biggest gaming controversies of the year, the launch and subsequent shutdown of Concord has quickly become notorious in the gaming community, making this message a harsh reminder of what recently came to pass.
Sony had high hopes for its exclusive 5v5 hero shooter Concord. Intended to be a competitor to Overwatch 2 and the upcoming Marvel Rivals, Concord was unable to stick the landing, battling criticism for both its price tag in a genre that is typically free-to-play and its divisive character designs. This caused the game to fail at gathering a strong player base from the start, and as a result, developer Firewalk Studios took Concord offline only two weeks after its initial launch.
A Reddit user known as lilsikki32 recently saw a notification from the PlayStation Store promoting the 72-hour early access period for Concord. The ad stated that pre-ordering the Digital Deluxe Edition would allow the user to play the game early, but lilsikki32 never got around to experiencing the hero shooter before it was taken offline. Since Concord players have been receiving refunds, the user will hopefully see their money back for the doomed title.

Although lilsikki32 lamented not getting a chance to play the game, several replies to their Reddit post stated that they dodged a bullet by not taking the ad up on its offer. The comments range from the hope that the game will potentially come back in a rebranding attempt to many others criticizing Sony for not promoting the game well enough to be successful. Reddit user AcidPorkBuns claimed that they only saw the hero shooter promoted on the PlayStation store for "a day or two." Despite criticism of the title, there are still many who want to see Concord return. A petition to re-release Concord recently made the rounds on the internet, collecting around 2,000 signatures.

As of now, Firewalk Studios and Sony have yet to announce any future plans for Concord. Many are holding out hope for the game to re-launch as a free-to-play title, but it may be difficult for it to rise from the ashes following such a controversial launch. In a humorous turn of events, there is currently one Concord player on Steam who seems to still be holding out hope, though the game's servers remain completely offline.
