The Game Awards has just confirmed that the upcoming PlayStation 5 console exclusive Phantom Blade Zero will officially announce its release date during next week's ceremony. The Game Awards 2025 is set to air on December 11 at 8pm ET, and it's already set to be a huge show, with this PlayStation 5 console exclusive being just the latest in a long line of confirmed and rumored reveals.
Being developed by Beijing-based studio S-GAME, Phantom Blade Zero was technically first seen all the way back in 2017, when a handful of character designs were shown during the ChinaJoy digital entertainment expo. But for those in the Western world, Phantom Blade Zero's debut appearance was at the 2023 PlayStation Showcase, where its impressive Unreal Engine 5 visuals, fluid animations, and flashy wuxia-inspired combat made a strong first impression.
Intended to be a sort of big-budget 3D spiritual reboot of game director Soulframe Liang's Rainblood indie series, Phantom Blade Zero was given a lengthy gameplay trailer at the beginning of this year to coincide with the start of the Year of the Snake. Along with a better look at its soulslike gameplay, Phantom Blade Zero's January 2025 trailer confirmed that a release date would be officially announced by the end of the year.
Phantom Blade Zero Will Get a Release Date at The Game Awards 2025
Staying true to its word, developer S-GAME has just confirmed that Phantom Blade Zero's release date will be officially confirmed at The Game Awards 2025. Announced via The Game Awards' official X account, this confirmation came alongside a short 20-second teaser for Phantom Blade Zero, once again showcasing the upcoming PlayStation 5 game's fluid character animations. While Phantom Blade Zero is confirmed to be a PlayStation 5 console exclusive when it eventually launches, it will release at the same time on PC.
Though this Phantom Blade Zero announcement is an exciting one, it's just the tip of the iceberg of what The Game Awards 2025 seems to have in store. This last week has been packed with other official confirmations like this one, all gradually building hype ahead of next week's ceremony. Currently, Resident Evil Requiem, Archetype Entertainment's Exodus, Invincible VS, and an unannounced Total War game have all been officially confirmed to appear at The Game Awards 2025, and fans can probably expect another few official confirmations ahead of the December 11 event.
Every Game Awards 2025 Leak and Rumor So Far
- Unknown Star Wars game announcement possibly related to The Old Republic
- Something related to the trademark 'Control: Resonant'
- A FromSoftware trailer or announcement
- Silent Hill 1 Remake reveal
- Death Stranding 2: On The Beach PC port announcement
- Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remake announcement
Of course, all leaks and rumors should always be taken with a hefty pinch of salt, but the ones listed above are the most prominent rumors currently surrounding the 2025 Game Awards. On top of these rumors, there are some Game Awards announcement theories that are based primarily on speculation with just one or two older leaks to support them. A new God of War game, for instance, is rumored to appear at The Game Awards 2025, with the theory coming from leaks dating back to the start of the year that claimed an Egypt-set God of War and a Greek Saga spinoff could be in the works.
But by far the biggest mystery surrounding The Game Awards 2025 is the much-discussed monolith. On November 29, Geoff Keighley posted an image of a large statue located off the highway in Palm Springs, California with the caption "regal.inspiring.thickness." The game being teased with this statue has not been officially confirmed yet, and speculation has run the gamut from God of War to Elder Scrolls.
