For months, Bluehole has tested new updates for the Xbox One version of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds using the game's test server, starting with the addition of the Miramar desert map. Now the test server is live yet again, testing some new features before they are added to the main game.
This iteration of the test server for the Xbox One version of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds doesn't add a new map, but it does test two new key features. The first is dynamic weather, which can completely change the way players play the game. For example, heavy rain will make it difficult to hear the footsteps of nearby players, whereas fog can obscure one's view and make it more difficult to pull off shots from a distance.
Besides these weather conditions (and a few others), the new update for PUBG's Xbox One test server also adds bullet penetration for limbs. This means that if a player's arm is blocking their head and it's shot, the bullet will go through the arm and hit the head, effectively applying devastating headshot damage. Alternatively, being shot in the arm when there is nothing behind it will apply forearm damage like normal. Bullet penetration applies to every gun in the game except for shotguns, so players should keep that in mind.
It's unclear how long the dynamic weather system and bullet penetration will be tested in the Xbox One version of PUBG, but once the developers are satisfied with how they're implemented, fans can expect them to be added to the main game in short time.
Meanwhile, there are some other big updates on the horizon for PUBG fans on Xbox One. Most notably, the Sanhok jungle map is on the way, and the unnamed snow map is also expected to drop by the end of the year. It's also possible that the Xbox One version of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds will exit early access within the next few months, which should bring with it the addition of achievements and other content.
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is out now for iOS, Android, and PC, and is available on Xbox One through early access.
