Earlier this week, PUBG Corp. Revealed its 2018 roadmap for its highly-popular battle royale game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. This roadmap stated that the game would receive an all-new emote wheel, so players could interact in a more immersive way, such as taunting mid-game. It also revealed that an in-game friends list would be available at some point in 2018. Well, these features and more are coming to PC tonight, as PUBG Corp. Will take its servers down for approximately three hours to move the current test build over to the live game.
Beginning tonight, March 12, at 7 PM PT / 10 PM ET, this seventh major update for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will introduce the aforementioned features and other key fixes. Once the update is complete, players will have access to 12 different emotes, with more slated to appear in the future. This update will also introduce a friends list independent from the Steam friends list, and this new list allows up to 50 other players as friends.
Moreover, players will also be able to use voice chat with teammates while in the main menu, and 37 new achievements will be added on Steam (where PUBG is the third highest grossing game.) Alongside these new features, the latest update will also fix a number of bugs, including one that causes players to die when vaulting or climbing.
In the Steam patch notes (found here), PUBG Crop. Stated that it has “mitigated lag and stutter instances and alleviated frame drop and lag occurrences happening when players are pushed together, starting from the second half of a match, or in dynamic situations, like intense firefights. This has allowed for a smoother environment to play in, than before.”
While bug fixes and optimizations are always key to first-person shooters like PUBG, they understandably exist in games nevertheless. Although an accidental glitch recently got a PUBG Pro team disqualified, a fix for that bug and others will hopefully come soon, as PUBG attempts to raise the bar for 2018 with these and other forthcoming features. Fans of the battle royale game should check outs its roadmap if they haven't already to see what other goodies could be coming soon.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is available now for PC and Xbox One.
