Plants vs. Zombies 3 is going offline soon as developer PopCap Games plans to "re-tool" the game based on player feedback. Earlier in 2024, the EA-owned studio had soft-launched the latest Plants vs. Zombies entry on Android and iOS.
Plants vs. Zombies 3 has been in development at PopCap Games for several years now. The tower-defense title had its first soft launch way back in 2020, and since then, it has undergone significant changes while navigating its way through multiple testing phases. Most recently, the Plants vs. Zombies sequel had a limited release, under the title "Plants vs. Zombies 3: Welcome to Zomburbia," in January 2024 for players in countries including Australia, Philippines, the UK, and more. This testing period has also come to an end now as the developer confirmed the process to take the game offline.
Every Plants Vs. Zombies Game, Ranked
The Plant Vs. Zombies franchise has been around for a while, giving players amazing tower defense-style games, but which are the best out of them all?
The Plants vs. Zombies 3 team announced that it is taking the game down by November 15 in order to give it a "major overhaul." It thanked the fans for providing feedback during the game's soft launch period, adding that it is "onto something great," and shared its desire to "go even further to make the game truly special." Giving an outline of the schedule for taking Plants vs. Zombies 3 offline, PopCap Games revealed that game downloads and in-app purchases had been blocked. Moreover, it stated that the game's server support would end on November 15, rendering it unplayable for all players.
When is Plants vs. Zombies 3 Going Offline?
- Plants vs. Zombies 3 servers are shutting down on November 15
While the new Plants vs. Zombies title has been confirmed to go offline for feedback-oriented development, there is no word on its return date. The American studio has simply promised its fans that an "even better" Plants vs. Zombies 3 experience would arrive "soon," without giving any hints. It's worth noting that, despite its scheduled shutdown, existing players' coin balances will be carried over to the next version of the game as long as their account is linked with their Google Play account or Apple ID or EA account. On the contrary, things like in-game progress, Boosts, and narrative will be erased for all players.
Despite not getting a new mainline entry since 2019's Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville, the popularity of the IP still seems strong. Case in point, the sudden resurgence of Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2: Deluxe Edition on Steam, during a recent sales promotion, which shot up its player count significantly. Even though there's no return date for Plants vs. Zombies 3: Welcome to Zomburbia yet, players should find it less concerning than the game's status a year ago when there had been little to no updates for a prolonged period of time.
