The enchanting world of Stardew Valley wouldn’t be as aesthetically pleasing as it is without the presence of the vibrant Trees. Among the many trees present around the Valley, Pine trees have a distinctive look. They have deep green foliage year-round, making them one of the game's evergreen tree varieties.

The Pine Tree can be found growing naturally in the Cindersap Forest, the RailRoad, and around the Carpenter’s Shop of Stardew Valley. However, players can also grow them on The Farm using Pine Cones. These trees typically have a conical shape and are covered with needle-like leaves.

Where to Find Pine Cones

Finding a Pine Cone is the first step in growing a Pine Tree. Players can find Pine Cones in Stardew Valley through the following ways:

Foraging

Pine Cones can be collected by shaking or chopping down mature Pine Trees at Foraging Level 1. To shake a tree, players need to stand next to it and “right-click” on it. Additionally, fully-grown Pine Trees on The Farm may occasionally scatter Pine Cones around them. Players can dig them up by using an Axe or Pickaxe.

Alternatively, pine Cones can also be found in Garbage Cans available across Pelican Town. Players can “right-click” on a Garbage Can to use it and find a valuable item inside.

One to five Pine Cones may be produced when the population of a Woodskip Fish Pond reaches nine fish.

Purchasing

Pine Cones are not sold at the General Store or JojaMart. Players who aren’t keen on spending time searching for Pine Cones can purchase them at The Traveling Cart found in the Cindersap Forest. The selling price of Pine Cones ranges from 100 to 1,000 gold.

How to Grow Pine Trees

Pine Trees are grown from Pine Cones. When planted, a Pine Cone goes through five growth stages to become a mature Pine Tree.

Unfertilized Pine Cones only have a 20% chance of growth per day and do not grow in Winter. Using Tree Fertilizers guarantees plant growth by one stage per night, even during winters. Fertilized Pine Cones take 5 days to grow, while Unfertilized ones reach peak maturity in 24 days.

Uses of Pine Trees

Chopping down Pine Trees with an axe produces Wood, Sap, and even Pine Cones. There is also a chance of obtaining Hardwood if the player has chosen the Lumberjack Profession.

Pine Trees can be tapped with a Tapper to yield Pine Tar. Using Normal Tappers, Pine Tar is produced every 5 to 6 days, while it only takes 2 nights using a Heavy Tapper. Pine Tar has a base selling price of 100g, which can be increased to 125g with the Tapper Profession (+25%). It is inedible but can be used in a few crafting recipes.

Stardew Valley is available now for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
