Gearbox is announcing plans to release Homeworld and Brothers in Arms-themed tables coinciding with the full release of Pinball FX. Pinball FX was released in early access in early 2022, but is now preparing for full launch across all major platforms in February. Gearbox appears to have been preparing for Pinball FX's upcoming launch. It has put together a DLC pack of tables including not only Homeworld and Brothers in Arms, but also a special Borderlands table, too.
Pinball FX has already made major partnerships with some significant brands, both inside and outside video games. Pinball FX has pinball tables available for movies and TV projects including Indiana Jones, How to Train Your Dragon, and My Little Pony, over 20 Star Wars pinball tables, and more for a total of over 60 games even before early access ends. The game will also launch with 8 game modes, tournaments, seasons of planned content, and plenty more. It's easily Zen Studios' most aspirational pinball game yet.
As part of the Pinball FX launch announcement Gearbox has confirmed it will be releasing a special Gearbox Pinball DLC pack for the game. Newly confirmed for the DLC are the Brothers in Arms: Win the War Pinball and Homeworld: Journey to Hiigara Pinball tables. The World War 2 and sci-fi tables stand out even among Pinball FX's already diverse offerings, though technically the Homeworld table has been available for some time during Pinball FX's early access.
The third table included in Gearbox's Pinball FX DLC pack is the Borderlands: Vault Hunter Pinball table. The Borderlands pinball table features many familiar characters from the popular looter shooter, including its most infamous villains. Claptrap is also there, offering a running commentary of each game's events. Players will be able to swap weapons, mow down psychos, and explore Pandora all with pinballs and flippers.
Pricing for the Gearbox Pinball DLC isn't clear, though prior Pinball FX DLC packs have typically been priced at $14.99. Alternatively, Pinball FX also offers a Pinball Pass subscription plan for around $15 a month that grants access to many of the tables available for the game. It's unclear if the Gearbox Pinball DLC will be included with the subscription when Pinball FX launches.
For fans of the Homeworld franchise, including the quickly approaching Homeworld 3 launch, or for those nostalgic for the tactical-shooter Brothers in Arms franchise, the Gearbox Pinball DLC may offer a fun distraction. Developer Zen Studios does everything it can to carry over gameplay concepts from origin games and media, putting it into its pinball tables uniquely. Pinball FX may be the game some need to keep them distracted in early 2023.
Pinball FX releases February 2023 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with Switch and "other platforms" to follow.
