Phasmophobia players will have noticed the new update that rolled out recently, and given the time of year, there is a special Christmas holiday event that's been implemented to see 2022 out. Phasmophobia is a horror game replete with terrifying ghosts, and Kinetic Games' indie release became a phenomenal success when it launched a couple of years ago. Not only was it popular among fans of the genre in general, but it also became a regular fixture in many livestreams.

Last year, Phasmophobia had its holiday update, which, among other things, left a number of players both petrified and feeling festive as they found themselves being hunted by a ghost wearing a Santa hat, accompanied by the jingling of bells. Despite horror games prioritizing scaring fans, even some of the most spine-chilling titles are more than happy to get into the Christmas spirit, and Kinetic's release is certainly no exception.

The latest patch for Phasmophobia, called the "Tempest" update, has been rolling out recently and comes with a slew of changes, bug fixes, and tweaks to some of the ghosts. There are some new weather effects, the return of fog, and new graphics options. One of the most standout things for this patch is the Holiday 2022 event. This will run up until January, though exactly when isn't specified, and will provide players with a chance to earn a holiday trophy, ID card, and badge. More details about the event can be found by clicking the "Holiday Sticker" on the main menu.

Over time, Phasmophobia has been received regular updates. The recent custom difficulty setting has given fans the opportunity to adjust their playthroughs based on their own preferences and styles. There have also been additional ghosts that have joined the ranks over the past couple of years, and not that long ago, the developer said it was interested in making the game scarier. There was also a new map added for Halloween 2021, and while there haven't been any brand-new levels since then, there have been tweaks to a couple of the current ones, namely the asylum and campsite.

While traditionally horror games are associated with Halloween, there's nothing stopping people from wanting to get their scares any time of the year. Phasmophobia is truly a terrifying experience, especially when first playing it, but its unique cooperative ghost hunting mechanics mean that players can team up for investigations, and often no two playthroughs are the same.
