The next Persona 5 spin-off title Persona 5 Tactica is taking the franchise to its next logical genre as a tactical RPG seems like a natural fit for the series' identity. As Atlus continues to produce more Persona 5 spin-off games, there is a lot of room to get creative with potential crossover content, including expanding outside the Persona series and Atlus games in general. If the developer wants to go this route, the Fire Emblem series is a clear contender for a crossover with Persona 5 Tactica, as it would mesh well with a lot of the elements present in this upcoming spin-off title.
Fire Emblem has grown the tactical RPG genre within the mainstream and is now one of Nintendo's most iconic franchises. As such, it would make sense for two massively popular franchises to crossover with Persona 5 dipping its toes into Fire Emblem's tactical RPG territory, and a collaboration between the two series could be mutually beneficial. There is already precedent for crossover between these two franchises, so it's not out of the question to see some sort of collaboration on another title like Persona 5 Tactica.
A Crossover Between Persona 5 Tactica and Fire Emblem Makes Too Much Sense
Including crossover content with Fire Emblem in Persona 5 Tactica wouldn't be the first time the two series have collaborated as 2016's Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE is an Atlus-developed title that features Persona-like gameplay involving Fire Emblem characters. While the title seemed like a strange concept at the time, it is very well executed, and Persona 5 Tactica is the perfect chance to reverse roles with Fire Emblem-like gameplay featuring Persona characters. It would be a nice nod to Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE if Persona 5 Tactica received some Fire Emblem content in the form of DLC to bring this collaboration full circle.
The Fire Emblem series has been doing a lot in terms of fan service, as its most recent entry, Fire Emblem Engage, featured Emblem Heroes from the series' past. With Fire Emblem Engage pulling heroes like Marth, Ike, Lyn, and Corrin from their respective home worlds into this new world as Emblems, it stands to reason that these heroes could be pulled into the world of Persona 5 Tactica as well. Going this route may throw a wrench into the canon of Persona 5, but the fan service opportunity and potential gameplay implications are too great to pass up.
One new mechanic of Persona 5 Tactica is the Triple Threat attack, which can occur when three allies are triangulated around a downed enemy. This type of system could fit right in with Fire Emblem's weapon triangle system, with each weapon type corresponding to a specific elemental weakness from Persona, allowing for similar type trump-style gameplay. Fire Emblem characters could also function similarly to how they do in Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, being summonable as special Personas on specific Fire Emblem-themed stages as a part of a DLC storyline separate from the main game.
Both being tactical RPGs is already a great reason to have Persona 5 Tactica cross over with Fire Emblem, but the fact that the two series have the shared history of Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE makes another collaboration between Atlus and Nintendo all the more likely. With Persona 3 Reload seemingly skipping a Switch release, Persona 5 Tactica could make up for this by adding special Nintendo-themed content exclusive to the Switch version. Not only would this help ease Persona fan frustration with missing out on Persona 3 Reload, but it also would give Fire Emblem fans a reason to check out a series they may be unfamiliar with.
Persona 5 Tactica is set to release on November 17th for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
