More evidence has surfaced suggesting that a remake of Persona 4 is in development coming hot off the heels of 2024's Persona 3 Reload. According to a new domain registered by developer Atlus, a Persona 4 remake could be closer than fans might think. While some fans might expect to see Persona 6 before any other past games get the remake treatment, this rumored Persona 4 remake could come at the perfect time if it coincides with another upcoming title.

Despite being entirely different genres, Konami's upcoming horror title Silent Hill f seems oddly reminiscent of Persona 4. Although the latter is a JRPG and the former is a survival horror game, Persona 4 and Silent Hill f could actually make the perfect one-two punch for gamers to play in succession if the rumored P4 remake releases close to Silent Hill f. Both of these titles share a similar setting and overarching threat but take their aesthetics in very different directions, potentially making for an interesting contrast in the near future.

A Persona 4 remake could follow many of the same beats that Persona 3 Reload did, but it would have to differ with one key decision.

Persona 4 and Silent Hill f Are Strangely Two Peas in a Pod

Both Silent Hill f and Person 4 Feature Similar Settings

While games set in a small Japanese town are not uncommon, Persona 4 is likely one of the more famous examples of a game with this setting. Persona 4 takes place in the fictional town of Inaba, where protagonist Yu Narukami has arrived to live with his uncle and cousin. However, not everything is as it seems in Inaba, as when the fog rolls in, one of the townspeople ends up dead in a mystery that Yu and fellow members of the Investigation Team must uncover by visiting the strange world within their TVs.

Not much is known about Silent Hill f's setting beyond the small bit of information shared in the recent Silent Hill Transmission. From what has been revealed, Silent Hill f also takes place in a fictional small Japanese town called Ebisugaoka, where protagonist Hinoka Shimizu must navigate a living nightmare after the town is enveloped in a mysterious fog. Although both Persona 4 and Silent Hill f conjure the image of a small, foggy Japanese town, how each game seems to approach this setting differs drastically.

One difference between Silent Hill f and Persona 4's settings is the years they take place, with Silent Hill f set in the 1960s and Persona 4 in the 21st Century.

Persona 4 and Silent Hill f Offer Two Different Looks at a Similar Threat

The foggy, small-town setting makes for an eerie backdrop for both Silent Hill f and Person 4 to build their stories on. While the narrative surrounding Silent Hill f's horrors is not yet clear, Persona 4 features a dark murder mystery for players to uncover as they investigate the connection between the TV world and Inaba's rash of murders. Despite these dark themes, Silent Hill f and Persona 4 take very different aesthetic approaches.

Persona 4 features a very bright and upbeat tone in both its UI and character design—as well as its music—for such a thematically dark game. Silent Hill f meshes both grotesque imagery with the use of bright shades of red in order to explore the beauty of horror, as the developers have described, but seemingly leaves the player isolated amid its horrors, whereas Persona 4 relies on the bonds of friendship between its main cast to uncover the game's uncomfortable truth. Tonally, these games clearly distinguish themselves from one another while still capturing the unsettling sense created by dense fog in a small Japanese town, and a Persona 4 remake releasing alongside Silent Hill f could help elevate these distinctions.
