Players might think they’re at the end of the game when they catch and defeat the person behind the deaths of Saki Konishi and Mayumi Yamano. But in reality, players need to reach Yomotsu Hirasaka in order to find the true big bad of Persona 4 Golden.

At face value, Persona 4 Golden is a murder mystery where Yu Narukami and his pals need to find the real killer. The thing is that the culprit isn’t the one behind the Midnight Channel, the fog that engulfs Inaba and the TV world, or the phenomenon that allows people to summon Personas. The entity behind the supernatural forces converging around Inaba is actually separate from the murders themselves.

Unfortunately, players need to be very precise in their choices in order to figure out the real enemy and reach Yomotsu Hirasaka to face them. If they aren’t, they miss out on a new dungeon and Persona 4’s best ending.

How to Reach Yomotsu Hirasaka in Persona 4 Golden

Players can reach Yomotsu Hirasaka on March 20, the day before Yu Narukami leaves Inaba. Reaching this area requires players to speak to all their maxed-out Social Links and make a specific choice.

Players get fast-forwarded to March 20 after a certain point where they get to play out Yu Narukami’s last day with his friends. This involves visiting all the characters that had their Social Link raised to level-10 and saying a goodbye. After doing so, a question pops up asking whether Yu should head home and finish packing or stay behind.

If the player selects “yes” the game moves directly to the normal ending. If the player selects “no” they get to wander around Inaba some more. Select “no,” and then return to Junes. The party comes together one last time for an investigation.

From there, visit Igor and Margaret in the Velvet Room to receive the Orb of Sight. After, visit the gas station attendant in the southern half of the Central Shopping District and exhaust their dialog options to set up a visit to Yomotsu Hirasaka.

What’s the Deal with the Gas Station Attendant in Persona 4 Golden?

The gas station attendant in Persona 4 Golden is actually the person behind the supernatural occurrences in Inaba. This discovery isn’t made until the final moments of the game.

Ahead of the game’s secret final dungeon that unlocks the true ending, players discover that the gas station attendant is Izanami, a figure in Japanese mythology. Izanami is the former wife of Izanagi and goddes of the land of the dead, who is discussed in class earlier in the story.

It’s revealed that Izanami had been awakening the Persona power in newcomers to Inaba, including Yu Narukami, Tohru Adachi, and Taro Namatame. Once Izanami is defeated, it allows things to finally return to normal in Inaba.

Persona 4 Golden is available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox Game Pass, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
