Persona 4 Golden performance is reportedly the best on Xbox Series X according to an early review comparing all console versions launching this week. Despite the franchise's storied history on PlayStation platforms, Xbox players may have the best Persona 4 Golden experience outside PlayStation's ecosystem.
Persona 4 Golden made its surprise debut on PC in 2020 and quickly became a best-selling title on Steam. A few years later, Sega and Atlus would announce both Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden would finally come to modern consoles. The critically acclaimed Persona games will soon make their debut on Nintendo and Xbox platforms for the very first time on January 19, 2023. Further, Microsoft secured Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden as day one launches for Xbox Game Pass on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
The Xbox Series X version of Persona 4 Golden is the best console version according to an early review by The Mako Reactor, which compares all console versions. Persona 4 Golden supports 120Hz on Xbox Series X, allowing the game to run at 120 frames-per-second on compatible displays. Additionally, Persona 4 Golden is able to run at a much higher resolution compared to the PS4 version. As a result, the outlet's Persona 4 Golden review recommends the Xbox Series X version for best performance and the Nintendo Switch version for portability.
Persona 4 Golden does not have a native PS5 version, so players must run the PS4 version in backwards compatibility mode. Unfortunately, many of the features supported by the PS5 are not applicable in Persona 4 Golden for PS4 such as native 4K or 120Hz. Players wanting to take advantage of higher resolution and frame rates must purchase the Xbox Series X version or existing PC version of Persona 4 Golden.
Persona 4 Golden for PS4 appears to be lackluster when compared to the Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X versions despite the franchise's history on PlayStation platforms. The Nintendo Switch version offers compelling performance for a portable platform, and the Xbox Series X version features high resolution and 120hz support for players gaming with the latest generation of HDMI 2.1 displays.
The latest Persona releases show that Sega and Atlus are shifting away from PlayStation exclusivity in favor of multi-platform support. The companies' decision appears to be paying off with reviewers praising Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden on Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X. At the very least, Sega and Atlus should ensure that PS5 users receive feature-rich versions of Persona games in the future. Fans can expect new game announcements from Atlus later this year.
Persona 4 Golden launches on January 19 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
