Much like several Social Links in Persona 3 Reload, Tanaka's Social Link is locked behind several prerequisites, making it easy to miss on a first run if you're not careful. He's an evening-only Social Link and is arguably one of the easier ones to Rank Up. If you're keeping up with the Hermit Social Link and your Social Stats, you'll be able to start the Devil Social Link around the midway point of Persona 3 Reload. Even if Tanaka isn't the most pleasant person to spend time with, you'll want to max out the Devil Social Link so that you can receive the ultimate Persona of the Devil Arcana.

Starting the Devil Social Link in Persona 3 Reload comes at a hefty price, the Hermit Social Link, and lots of Charm.
How to Unlock the Devil Social Link in Persona 3 Reload
What Days is Tanaka Available?
You will need to do the following in order to unlock the Devil Social Link:
- Start Rank 3 of the Hermit (Maya) Social Link. You'll then be able to see Tanaka at Paulownia Mall.
- Have Level 4 Charm (Smooth) so that Tanaka will speak to you.
- Pay 20000 yen when you first speak to him.
- On the next day he's available, pay him 10000.
- On the third day you see him, give him another 10000. This will start his Social Link.
Tanaka is available during the evenings on Tuesday and Saturday. Since he's an "out-of-school" Social Link, you can spend time with him during the week before exams and on holidays.

Normally, it's recommended that you have a Persona of a matching Arcana when you go to rank up your Social Links. However, for Tanaka, you don't need a Persona of the Devil Arcana. He shares this trait with Akinari Kamiki (Sun), who also ranks up automatically. However, the choices you make in each Rank will still give you points towards the Devil Social Link.

This Rank is automatic. If you've reached Rank 4 of the Hermit Arcana, have level 4 Charm, and paid the 40000, then you'll automatically unlock Rank 1 when you speak to Tanaka.

Once you've maxed out the Social Link, Tanaka will give you the Thank-You Letter key item. With this, you'll be able to fuse Beelzebub, the ultimate form of the Devil Arcana. Beelzebub's base level is 81, so if you're on your first playthrough, it'll be a while before you can fuse him. He can be fused by doing a Special Fusion in the Velvet Room.
The Thank-You Letter key item will carry over into NG+.
