Persona 3 Reload is the latest version of Persona 3, offering numerous additional features and improvements both visually and in terms of gameplay. Much like Portable before it, Persona 3 Reload has changed how Fusion Spells work.
In the original version of Persona 3, players were able to perform fusion spells at the cost of SP if they had both of the Personas involved in the spell in their current stock. Persona 3 Portable changed this, making Fusion Spells consumable items that could be purchased from the Antique Shop in exchange for gems and did not require players to have the involved Personas in their stock. Persona 3 Reload has changed how Fusion Spells work once more, so here's how to use them.

How Fusion Spells Work in Reload
In Persona 3 Reload, Fusion Spells have been reworked to function as the Protagonist's "Theurgy." This is essentially a limit break that can be used once the Theurgy Meter is full, and is unlocked shortly after Fuuka joins S.E.E.S. Each party member's Theurgy is charged a different way, but the Protagonist's Theurgy has one of the easiest charging methods. Whenever the Protagonist summons a Persona it will increase their Theurgy meter, fitting for someone who has a multitude of Personas to call on.
Once the Protagonist's Theurgy meter is full, they are able to choose from any of the Fusion Spells they currently have access to. They unlock Fusion Spells by having all Personas involved in that Fusion Spell registered in the Compendium, so they don't need to keep those Personas in their stock to access their Fusion Spells. Since Theurgy doesn't cost SP or require items to use, players can also freely use their Fusion Spells without worrying about resources.
There's a ton of Fusion Spells to discover while playing Persona 3 Reload, offering an array of damaging and supporting effects that further emphasize the Protagonist's flexible abilities as a "Wild Card." Here are a few particularly useful examples, two of which can be used very early in the game.:
- Cadenza: By using Orpheus and Apsaras together, the Protagonist can perform a Party-wide Heal that also boosts accuracy and evasion. Easily one of the strongest support abilities, this can be accessed from the very start and is the first Fusion Spell players will have access to.
- Jack Brothers: The combined power of Jack Frost and Jack O' Lantern's Stand-Up Routine will deal almighty damage to all enemies with a high chance of knocking them down, making it perfect for triggering all-out attacks against enemies where that wouldn't otherwise be possible.
- Best Friends: Uniting Forneus and Decarabia allows the Protagonist to cast a powerful buff, increasing the damage dealt by the target's next attack by more than double.
