Since the original Persona 3, Kohyru has served as the ultimate form of the Hierophant Arcana, and this stays true in Persona 3 Reload. You'll need a certain key item in order to create Kohryu in the Velvet Room. On top of this, you will also need four Personas registered in the compendium before the Special Fusion becomes available. Kohryu is a great Persona to have on your team in Persona 3 Reload, but if you want, you have the option of making it even stronger by using Skill Cards.

While most Persona 3 Reload social links are with other high-school kids, Bunkichi and his wife at Bookworms are an important exception.

How to Unlock Kohryu

Persona 3 Reload Hierophant SL
The Hierophant social link in Persona 3 Reload.

As stated, Kohryu is a Special Fusion Persona, meaning he'll require several Personas to fuse. Before you can access Kohryu on the Special Fusion page, you'll need to complete the Hierophant Social Link (Bunkichi & Mitsuko). This Social Link can be found at the bookstore in Iwatodai Strip Mall on the 1F. It unlocks on 4/25.

You'll need to complete the Hierophant Social Link's Rank 3 to unlock the Temperance Social Link.

Once you reach Rank 10 of the Hierophant Social Link, you will be given a Persimmon Fruit key item. This will allow you to fuse Kohryu. To ensure you're getting the most Social Link points with each Rank, bring a Persona of the Hierophant Arcana when you spend time with them.

Bunkichi gets lost in Tartarus on 9/12 and has a deadline on 10/3. If you've already maxed out the Hierophant Social Link, then you'll already have the Persimmon Fruit. However, failing to rescue Bunkichi when you're still working on the Social Link will permanently lock you out of that playthrough.

Which Personas Do You Need to Fuse Kohryu?

Kohryu Fusion Recipe

To fuse Kohryu, you will need:

  • Genbu (Shuffle Time on Yabbashah 93-118)
  • Seiryu (Shuffle Time on Tziah 119-144)
  • Suzaku (Fusion: Mishaguji + Cu Chulainn or Dominion + Succubus/Dionysus)
  • * Byakko (Complete Koromaru's Linked Episode)

These are all Persona of the Temperance Arcana, and they can be gained through Shuffle Time or regular Fusion. The exception to this is Byakko, who is added to the fusion pool after you get the Koromaru's Collar key item. With this, you can fuse Cybele and Lachesis to get Byakko. Other fusions include but are not limited to:

  • Nebiros + Trumpeter
  • Rangda + Lilith
  • Jatayu + Barong

Is Kohryu Worth Using?

General Information & Stats for Kohryu

persona 3 reload kohryu description

Kohryu's starting level is 71, meaning that you're not going to be able to fuse him at the start of your playthrough. By the time you can fuse him, you'll likely have a handful of powerful Personas at your disposal. In any case, Kohryu's best stats are his Magic and his Endurance. While his Skill List has useful Passive Skills such as Spell Master, you may want to use Skill Cards if you plan on building him.

You're better off using Magic Skills for Kohryu instead of Physical, as Kohryu's Attack stat isn't as high as Magic. If you want to build a physical-attacking Kohryu, then you should swap out Skills such as Invigorate 3 for Regenerate 3, etc. However, there are plenty of Persona that work as better physical attackers, so maybe it's adivsed to use Kohryu for magic.

Kohryu has the following Affinity weaknesses and Skills:

  • Kohryu is a great Persona to have because he has no weaknesses and can Repel Electric and Resist Light. If you have the right Skill Cards, you can change his Resist Light to Null Light, and Null/Resist other Affinities. Kohryu's base Skill Set is already quite balanced. Spell Master, Invigorate 3, and Concentrate are usual Must-Haves for magic-attacking Personas.
  • You can swap out Makarakharn and Tetrakarn for buffs, debuffs, or Dekunda/Dekaja if you'd prefer.
  • You can consider Null Dark, Resist Dark, or Endure to protect Kohryu from Dark-Affinity insta-kill attacks.
  • A good Passive Skill for Kohryu is Ali Dance. This will halve the accuracy of any incoming attacks to Kohryu.
