Atlus has given fans another look at Persona 3 Reload, with a brief gameplay trailer that showcases some of its characters and RPG battle mechanics. This remake was first announced back in June and is looking to be a complete overhaul of the original Persona 3. This will add a bunch of quality-of-life improvements and features that will bring it in line with Atlus’ more recent output, like Persona 5. The developer was also quick to give fans a lot of details about what to expect from this remake as well.
Updates regarding the remake came in increment chunks, with gameplay showcases and interviews about the RPG remake. Atlus even stated that these reveals would be coming with every full moon, which is about once a month. While July’s Full Moon has already come and gone, Persona 3 Reload got a brief showing during the Bilibili China-exclusive “High Energy Game Fest” digital event, which highlighted fan-favorite members of the SEES party players will encounter.
This gameplay trailer first showed off the party of Junpei, Akihiko, and the protagonist exploring Tartarus, where they first encounter Fuuka Yamigishi, the eventual Navigator for SEES in Persona 3. It also shows off some scenes where the player can talk to Fuuka outside of school, likely as a part of her social link. The showcase also features cutscenes from the game's story, such as the introduction of Mitsuru Kirijo and her coming to the inexperienced members' rescue in Tartarus on her bike.
The second half shows off the other senior member of SEES, Akihiko Sanada, as he assists his juniors throughout a block of Tartarus. From there, it transitions into a brief battle, where Akihiko summons his Persona Polydeuces, while also giving a quick look at the game's remade UI. The trailer also ends on the game's new victory screen, where all four party members do a walk out of battle, with the one who landed the final blow being in the center of the shot. Fans noticed how this screen took a more stylish route that was more reminiscent of Persona 5's All-Out Attack splash art victory screen.
After this trailer, Faz, a JRPG-focused YouTuber, points out how the music will likely sound after being re-arranged. This can be seen in a clip from the livestream of the event, where he noticed that it was an arrangement of the song "Afternoon Break," which can be heard in the original game, commonly heard during Persona 3's social events.
Persona 3 Reload is coming in early 2024 to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
