Social Stats are a constant feature throughout the Persona series. In Persona 3 and Persona 3 Portable, increasing the social stats of the playable character will allow the player to unlock certain Social Links with NPCs that will benefit the players in multiple ways, including allowing them to fuse new Persona, granting new skills, access previously inaccessible options, and more.
One of the Social Stats that the player can increase is Charm, which can be increased in a multitude of ways. In this guide, players will learn exactly how to increase Charm so that players can unlock all Social Links and get the most out of the stat. This guide will also focus primarily on the updated version of the game, Persona 3 Portable.
What Ranks Are Available To The Player?
Though the difference is only slight, the rankings between the male protagonist and the female protagonist differ, so players should take this into consideration when choosing which character to play. One difference that can be found is in the titles that players are awarded, though this is solely cosmetic and has no actual impact on gameplay.
However, another difference is in the Social Links that are unlocked, which is entirely dependent on which protagonist is chosen. For instance, female protagonists will unlock President Tanaka at Rank 2 and Akihiko Sanada at Rank 4, whereas male protagonists will unlock Nozomi Suemitsu at Rank 2, President Tanaka at Rank 4, and Yukari Takeba at Rank 6. This means that not only are different Social Links formed, but male protagonists also gain one more. This could make a big difference for some, so players should take note.
All in all, the ranks available to each player are:
Male Protagonist
- Plain
- Unpolished
- Confident
- Smooth
- Popular
- Charismatic
Female Protagonist
- Plain
- Ingenue
- Unique
- Queen Bee
- Angelic
- Bewitching
How To Increase Charm
There are numerous ways that players can increase their Charm stat in Persona 3. The first and easiest way to level the Charm stat is by achieving good exam results - this adds Charm automatically for the player. Achieving a little above average results in exams will give players +1 point to the Charm rank. Similarly, scoring well above average gives +2, reaching the top 10 in the class gives +3, and getting the top score in the whole class gives +4. Though it may seem difficult to achieve top marks, it will become progressively easier.
As well as this, there are also actions players can do that will use up time slots while giving Charm in exchange. These actions include:
- Visiting Chagall Cafe at any time for +2 Charm. Costs 500 Yen.
- Visiting Hagakure Ramen after school for +3 Charm. Costs 900 Yen.
- Visiting Screen Shot Theater after school for +4 Charm. Costs 1500 Yen.
- Visiting the Summer Film Festival on August 22, 23, and 30. This will also improve Social Links.
- Answering a question correctly in class for +1 Charm.
Though the Summer Film Festival can only be experienced once, the rest of these actions can be done as many times as needed to raise the Charm stat high enough to make new Social Links and experience new things within the game. There are also multiple pop quizzes during the school year, so players will be able to farm Charm points from those even if they choose not to partake in any of the actions that require spending in-game money, such as the Theater or Café.
