Actor Alix Wilton Regan has appeared in numerous acting roles over the years, including Samantha Traynor in Mass Effect 3, the Inquisitor in Dragon Age: Inquisition (and The Veilguard), and Aya/Amunet in Assassin's Creed Origins. Her work hasn't ceased either, as the last year or so of her career has been incredibly busy. She has served as executive producer on Tales of Kenzera: Zau, she recorded the final lines for The Inquisitor in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and she was announced as the actor Joanna Dark in the Perfect Dark reboot. And those are only the things she can talk about.
Characterizing this career period as "lucky," Wilton Regan spoke with The Best War Games about her various career endeavors following Tales of Kenzera: Zau's "Game Beyond Entertainment" win at the BAFTA Game Awards. She understandably could not say much about her role as Joanna Dark, but she did touch on what it was like to be cast as her.
Joanna Dark and More
There are still plenty of surprises for 2025, with Wilton Regan teasing her appearance in a few games coming later this year. While she could not confirm any of these new 2025 games, she did give fans a little teaser: "There are also a few other things that I've been in that will be released later this year, but I'm not allowed to confirm that I'm in. My hint to people reading this is that, if you listen very carefully to some trailers that have already dropped, you will hear my voice across them. That's all I can say." As it stands, Perfect Dark does not yet have a release window, but we do know that Wilton Regan is in it.
Perfect Dark debuted in 2000 as a spiritual successor to GoldenEye 007, achieving incredible critical and commercial success. Later, a prequel released on the Xbox 360 that wasn't quite as popular, but its multiplayer remained a total blast to play. Prior to this reboot, fans haven't seen Joanna Dark since Perfect Dark Zero, but that's set to change.
When asked about stepping into the role, she summarized the phone call as...
"A wonderful offer that a girl like me just can't say no to. 'Would you like to step into this iconic British role, you know, this powerhouse of a female video game character?' I was like, 'Yeah, of course I would.' Absolutely Brilliant."
Joanna Dark's appeal is certainly understandable, as beyond even the mere excitement of the Perfect Dark reboot existing is the excitement behind the characters and world of that universe. Of course, fans are still in for a little wait. She could only add, "I think it's quite well-documented that production's ongoing, and it's the thrill of a lifetime. It's absolutely brilliant."
