PEAK’s newest biome, the Mesa, is full of environmental hazards and pesky bugs, but one of the most deceptively dangerous threats is the Scorpion. Despite their small size and slow crawl, these creatures can deliver devastating poison damage that quickly ruins a climb if you’re not careful. Once a scorpion gets too close to the player, it immediately locks on and stings them, inflicting poison damage. With the right strategies, you can easily deal with scorpions in PEAK and even avoid them altogether.
PEAK: All Biomes & How To Survive Every Level
There are five biomes PEAK players can explore as they ascend to the top of the island, each of which features new terrain and hazards to avoid.
How To Deal With Scorpions In PEAK
Scorpions only appear in the Mesa biome, spawning more frequently at night. Even though they’re small, scorpions are easy to spot as they’ll often be moving in circles. When a scorpion closes in, it charges its stinger and delivers a poisonous strike.
The first thing you can do is pick up the scorpion and throw it as far away from you as you can. To do so, approach a scorpion and press E to pick it up. Once held, it prepares to sting. The scorpion’s stinger will glow briefly before striking. To avoid getting stung, hold E again to charge a throw. Release when the gauge is about halfway full to toss it safely before it lands a hit.
If you do get stung, the best way to recover from poison damage is to use an Antidote or the Cure All. You can find these in luggage bags scattered around Mesa. If you don’t find these consumables, you can just wait for the poison to eventually wear off.
How to Cook Scorpions in PEAK
Another way to deal with scorpions is to cook them. Interestingly, scorpions can actually be turned into a food source if handled properly. The process of cooking scorpions isn’t what you expect, as you can’t just toss them onto a campfire. Instead, players need to use Dynamite to prepare them.
When a scorpion is caught in a Dynamite blast in PEAK, it transforms into a Cooked Scorpion, which becomes an edible item. Eating a Cooked Scorpion restores hunger, making it a handy food resource during long climbs.
Since Dynamite ignites the moment you approach it, timing becomes everything when cooking with scorpions in PEAK. Players have two main options: either pick up a scorpion and throw it into already primed Dynamite, or carefully toss Dynamite directly onto a scorpion. There’s no other way around this.
You don’t always have to cook every scorpion you come across. If you get the chance, cook one for an extra food source to survive in the Mesa.
