With so many skills and trees taking players down different paths, crafting a Tank build may seem confusing, but the options available can provide players will a build to be reckoned with. Payday 3 might not feature the skills and perk decks that made players literal gods in the previous game, but there’s a good start here for those not interested in stealth.

6 Ammo Specialist

BASIC – Your reserve ammo capacity is increased by 20%. Ammo bags you deploy have 2 additional charges.

ACED – Whenever you pick up ammo, if your current weapon’s magazine is full, you gain EDGE if you don’t have it.

For the tanks out there, Ammo Specialist is probably a good place to start, due to the fact that more bullets mean more kills, and more kills means more of a chance of staying alive. If players are using Ammo Specialist, then they can see a 20% increase to their ammo reserves, as well as 2 charges to their Ammo Bags.

If players pick the Aced version of this skill, then they will also gain EDGE upon picking up ammo when their magazine is full. This means that they will deal even more damage with their weapons, which is a benefit to those who want to see better outputs of damage to keep their health intact.

5 Plate Up

As long as you have GRIT, ammo drops will instantly regenerate your current armor chunk.

One of the main reasons players need to unlock Ammo Specialist is so that they can pick up the fourth skill in this tree which is the Plate Up skill. With this active, players will be able to not only get ammo pick-ups from dead enemies or traded hostages, but they will also be able to instantly regenerate their armor chunk upon picking up these ammo drops.

However, players need GRIT in order to do this, but provided with the other skills for this tank build, obtaining GRIT should not be a difficulty that players will face. The added bonus of GRIT will be, of course, an added bonus to defense, with less damage facing players for their GRIT.

4 Tank (Aced)

BASIC – Increase the regeneration speed of your armor chunks by 20%. Your armor bag has 2 additional charges.

ACED – Whenever one of your armor chunks breaks, gain or refresh GRIT.

It wouldn’t be a Tank build without the Tank skill, and this can greatly benefit players that have the basic and aced versions of it. With the basic version, players can increase the regeneration rate of their armor chunks by an additional 20%. They will also have 2 additional charges to their Armor Bag if that is their chosen equipment for the fight ahead.

When using the Aced variant of Tank, players can gain GRIT or refresh it if their armor chunk breaks. This is one way to get GRIT and ensure it is combined with the Plate Up perk, which will automatically regenerate said armor chunk, and protect the precious health underneath.

3 Extra Plates

Since armor is such a vital component of Payday 3 and its combat difficulty, Extra Plates is probably a good idea for those investing in the Tank skill tree. Extra Plates is the third skill within this tree, and it will give players 2 additional charges to their Armor Bags. Thus ensuring their safety behind cover with a pistol in hand, as their Armor Bag will now provide at least 6 charges to fix those broken armor chunks.

2 Last Man Standing

If damage would normally down you, you can instead consume available GRIT to stay on your feet and become immune to damage for 10 seconds. After this effect has been applied, you can’t gain GRIT until you heal using a Medical Bag or First Aid Kit, or until you’re downed.

The fifth skill in the Tank tree is Last Man Standing, which allows players to use their collected GRIT to keep themselves alive when the tough gets going. Players can expect to be immune to damage for a whopping 10 seconds, ensuring that those who oppose their rule as a heister will meet a fiery end. However, when this effect ends, players cannot gain GRIT unless they are downed or use a Medic Bag.

1 Enforcer

BASIC – Whenever you kill 2 enemies within 4 seconds that are within 5 meters of you, you gain GRIT.

ACED – Whenever you kill 1 enemy within 5 meters range, if you have GRIT, gain EDGE.

Players only really need to pick up the basic version of the Enforcer skill for it grants GRIT. Being a tank is all about GRIT, and building up those resistances to damage. With the basic version equipped, players can kill 2 enemies within 4 seconds all within 5 meters to obtain GRIT, which shouldn’t be hard, considering the police onslaughts are rather violent, and filled with enemies, and Assault Rifles can fire many bullets.
