Exploring the Atlas of Worlds and clearing maps constitutes almost the entirety of the endgame of Path of Exile 2. Players who spend any amount of time engaging with this system will quickly become intimately familiar with how mapping works in the game.
However, in addition to the regular maps that make up the majority of the Atlas, there are also Unique maps with special interactions that aren’t explained through in-game tooltips. One of these maps is named Untainted Paradise. Here is how it works.
Path of Exile 2: Best Atlas Skill Tree Setup
The Atlas Skill Tree is an endgame mapping mechanic in Path of Exile 2 that unlocks after the campaign. Here's how to set it up correctly.
What Is Untainted Paradise in PoE 2
Untainted Paradise is a Unique map in Path of Exile 2 with two modifiers:
- (200–400)% increased Experience gain
- Monsters drop no items
The main purpose of Untainted Paradise is to give players an easy way to earn a lot of experience in a short amount of time. However, the higher the level a character is, the less impactful Untainted Paradise will be because the experience it gives does not scale with your level.
For reference, a character at level 89 will fill up roughly 22% of their experience bar after an attempted Untainted Paradise, whereas a character at level 95 will only gain roughly 5%, depending on the map rolls and Waystone used. The lower your character level, the more you will benefit from this map.
Additionally, a juiced map at Tier 15+ on a regular map will give roughly the same amount of experience (sometimes more) as an Untainted Paradise. Because of this, if you’re above level 90, it may be worth leaving the Untainted Paradise for your next character in the league.
Like regular maps, there will be normal (white), magic (blue), and rare (yellow) monsters in Untainted Paradise. However, there will never be any Bosses here. Because of this, Overseer Precursor Tablet (adds bosses), will not take effect.
Another key limitation of Untainted Paradise is that monsters will never drop an item. Using a Waystone that has “Increased Rarity of Items Found in this Area” and “Increased Quantity of Items Found in this Area” will have no effect.
Untainted Paradise is solely inhabited by beast-type monsters, which means the Tame Beast skill can be used on any enemy you see.
Does Waystone Tier Affect Untainted Paradise in PoE 2
Yes, it does. The higher the tier of the Waystone you use to access an Untainted Paradise, the higher the level of the monsters on the map will be. A higher level correlates directly to more experience gain.
Additionally, the mods on your Waystone, like “#% Increased Experience Gain” and “#% Increased Pack Size,” do affect the monsters in an Untainted Paradise. For the most optimal experience gain through Untainted Paradise, using a Tier 16 Waystone is required. However, this is rarely worth it, as the difference between a Level 79 Area Level (Tier 15) and Level 80 Area Level (Tier 16) in terms of EXP alone is very minor. Players are better off saving their Tier 16 maps for juiced maps.
Untainted Paradise counts as a Unique map, which means when completed for the first time, it will award players with a Book of Unique Knowledge that can be given to Doryani to obtain 2 Atlas passive skill tree points. However, for subsequent Unique map Atlas points, repeating Untained Paradise will not work. You will need to find and clear different Unique maps.
