In Path of Exile 2, Expedition Logbooks are a part of the Expedition endgame mechanic and are used to access the pinnacle boss, Olroth, Origin of the Fall. Players hoping to earn Expedition Atlas points or to farm Olroth for some of his valuable Unique drops will want to know how to get their hands on some useful Logbooks.
Just like the keys needed to access other pinnacle boss fights, Logbooks are exceedingly rare and naturally expensive on the trade site. Luckily, there are a few ways to increase their drop rate in the game, making them somewhat easier to get if you know what you’re doing. Here’s the breakdown.

How to Get Expedition Logbooks in PoE 2
Expedition Logbooks are an exclusive rare drop from Runic Monsters in the Expedition mechanic in the Atlas available in the endgame of Path of Exile 2. Runic Monsters spawn from Red Flagpoles (pictured below), Excavated Chests spawn from black banners, and Remnants serve as difficulty and loot multipliers for the Runic Monsters.
When placing the detonators in Expeditions, a good mix of Red poles and Unearthed Remnants is the best way to farm for Logbooks. If you’re farming for Artifacts (Expedition Crafting and Recombination Currency), prioritize black banners instead. There are only a limited number of detonators, which means you won’t be able to blow everything up all at once; you’ll need to choose.
The level of an Expedition Logbook depends on the Area Level of the map they drop in. So, if you use a Tier 10 Waystone for an Expedition map, it will only drop a Level 74 Logbook, which isn’t ideal. Always aim to get a Level 79 Logbook by using a Tier 15 Waystone. If an Expedition map has the Corrupted or Irradiated modifier, it will automatically have +1 or +2 to Area Level. In these cases, you can use a Tier 13 or Tier 14 Waystone for the same result.

How to Farm Logbooks in PoE 2
Logbooks are incredibly rare, but luckily, there are a few ways to increase their drop rate:
- Expedition Precursor Tablets: The modifier “(5-10)% increased Quantity of Expedition Logbooks dropped by Runic Monsters in your Maps” on an Expedition Precursor Tablet is the most direct way to increase the drop rate of Logbooks in your Expedition maps. Place the Precursor Tablet in a completed Tower to activate its effects. For the absolute best results, find three Towers that have overlapping areas between them and activate Expedition Tablets with this modifier on them in order to get 3x the effects.
- Detailed Records Atlas Passive: In the Expedition section of the Atlas tree, there is a node called Detailed Records, which has the following effect: 30% increased Quantity of Expedition Logbooks dropped by Runic Monsters in your Maps. Expedition Logbooks found in your Maps always have 3 Implicit Modifiers.
The only way to earn Expedition Atlas points is to complete the Expedition pinnacle encounter (explained below).
Remember to use a loot filter to make Logbook drops immediately noticeable.

How to Use Logbooks in PoE 2
Expedition Logbooks can be used by talking to Dannig in your Hideout and selecting the option “Show Expeditions Map.” Dannig is an Expeditions NPC who appears in your Hideout after you encounter him during a regular Expedition map as an NPC helper.
Place the Logbook in the empty box to access a large map with a massive Expedition. Unlike regular Expeditions, which only have five Detonators and a small area that can be excavated, this Expedition spans the entire length of the map with 20 Detonators.
The Runic Monsters that spawn in the pinnacle boss maps do not drop Logbooks; you can only find them in regular Expedition maps.
The main purpose of Logbooks is to farm Artifacts and earn Expedition Atlas tree points by defeating Olroth, Origin of the Fall, the Expedition pinnacle boss. Olroth only appears in Area Level 79+, which means players will need a Level 79+ Logbook to encounter him. If you see a silver skull icon on the map, that’s Olroth. In order to earn all 8 Expedition Atlas points, players will need to fight and defeat Olroth at Levels 79, 80, 81, and 82, respectively. To increase the Area Level, you’ll need to get +1 to Boss Difficulty nodes in the Expedition Atlas and use a Level 79 Logbook. You can also encounter Olroth with a Level 78 Logbook if you have +1 to Boss Level, but doing so will not earn you any Expedition Atlas points.
Olroth’s spawn is not guaranteed in Level 79+ Logbooks. He appears randomly.
