Crafting in Path of Exile 2 is done through various forms of crafting currency that allow players to add, remove, or modify item modifiers in various ways. One of the most useful and valuable currency types in PoE 2 is called the Fracturing Orb, which allows players to lock a specific modifier in place, preventing any changes to it in subsequent crafting attempts.

How to Get Fracturing Orbs in PoE 2
Fracturing Orbs can be obtained as random drops from exclusive monsters inside Cleansed Maps. Cleansed Maps are map nodes in the Atlas that have been cleansed of their corruption by the player. Players can cleanse maps by defeating the final boss in a Corrupted Nexus. Doing so will remove the corruption from that section of the Atlas, thereby transforming the nearby maps into Cleansed Maps.
A Corrupted Nexus is identified through a bright red Corruption icon above the map node. This map is always surrounded by other corrupted maps. To cleanse the corruption, players only need to defeat the final boss in the Corrupted Nexus; it does not require clearing the nearby maps as well.
Do note, however, that Fracturing Orbs are very rare drops, and there is no guarantee that you will be able to obtain one even after clearing multiple cleansed maps. According to GGG, players can expect one Fracturing Orb drop per biome.
How to Use Fracturing Orbs in PoE 2
Fracturing Orb has the following effect:
Fracture a random modifier on a rare item with at least 4 modifiers, locking it in place.
A Fractured modifier is a modifier that is locked in place, and it cannot be removed or modified by any means whatsoever. This means using a 
Divine Orb, 
Chaos Orb, 
Orb of Annulment, or 
Vaal Orb will have no effect on the fractured modifier.
Implicit modifiers do not count towards the ‘at least 4 modifiers’ requirement for using a Fractured Orb.
If a player finds a base with an excellent modifier, they can use the Fracturing Orb on it in hopes of locking that specific modifier in place. If they succeed, they can use Orbs of Annulment to remove all remaining modifiers (if they are undesirable) to get a perfect base to craft on, or a Chaos Orb to reroll the other modifiers, or use other currency types.
A key limitation of the Fracturing Orb is that it only works on items that have at least 4 modifiers already. This means you cannot use it on a Normal or Magic item; only Rares. Using an item with no more than four modifiers is the most optimal way to use a Fracturing Orb, as it will have the highest probability of fracturing the desired modifier. More modifiers mean more options for the Fracturing Orb to lock onto.
Items that have one really good modifier, a very rare modifier, or multiple great modifiers are the best targets for using a Fracturing Orb.
Due to their inherent rarity, Fracturing Orbs also have a relatively high value as a currency and can be used for trade with other players.
