Summary

  • Parker Posey wants a 'Stab' movie spinoff from the 'Scream' franchise
  • Legacy characters are returning for 'Scream 7' including Matthew Lillard
  • A potential 'Stab' film could poke fun at 'Scream' conventions and characters

Parker Posey hasn't starred in many horror movies, but her turn in Scream 3 as a ditzy and conceited actress named Jennifer Jolie was hilarious, clever, and engaging. Posey's role was one of the most meta in the slasher franchise. Posey played an actress playing Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) in several Stab movies. I enjoyed watching Jennifer and Gale interact since they couldn't be more different, although they both hoped to become beloved celebrities.

Many legacy cast members are coming back to Scream 7, and I'm excited to see how they are brought back, especially since many of them were killed. Posey isn't returning to the slasher sequel. However, Posey recently talked about a Scream spinoff that she hopes to see, and I think it would be cool.

Matthew Lillard's Joke About His Scream 7 Return Will Get Horror Fans Even More Excited

Matthew Lillard made every Scream's fan day when it was announced that he would play Stu Macher again, and he recently joked about the role.

Parker Posey Would Love A Scream Stab Spinoff Movie And So Would I

Jennifer Jolie (Parker Posey) in Scream 3

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, according to Bloody Disgusting, Parker Posey, who starred in Scream 3, said she'd love a Scream spinoff film and explained:

“There should be a Stab movie.”

Posey said she would be happy to portray Gale Weathers in the Stab movie and added:

"I’d play Gale now, but then I’d play a younger Gale and I’d have all the Snapchat features.”

I love the idea of a real Stab movie since fans of the Scream franchise have been curious about each Stab movie ever since the beginning. If the Scream franchise is campy, fun, and hilarious, then the Stab movies are perhaps even more so. Each Stab movie pokes fun at the real-life danger of Ghostface, just like the Scream franchise satirizes the slasher genre. Since audiences have seen glimpses of several Stab movies since the first Scream film was released in 1996, it definitely seems like time to make a real one.I would be thrilled to see Posey portray Gale in a Stab film. Scream is a meta franchise, and making a real Stab would be the most meta move of all.

However, since Stab is essentially a paint-by-numbers version of the first Scream movie's story, I think there should be some changes. If a real Stab movie were made, it should comment on the entire franchise. This way, legacy characters like Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard) can be featured, along with newer characters such as Mindy Meeks-Martin (Jasmin Savoy Brown) and Chad Meeks-Martin (Mason Gooding). Audiences would definitely love to see all their favorite characters. Otherwise, a Stab film could be boring and lackluster.

Since Scream spoofs other horror movies, it's about time that another movie spoofed Scream. Sure, the original Scary Movie did that once upon a time, but it's been over two decades since that movie was released in 2000. Even though there will be a Scary Movie legacy sequel, it might not talk about the Scream franchise since it already has. I think that a Stab movie could poke fun at everything from Ghostface's voice to why new killers keep using the same motive of revenge or looking for fame.

What Happened To Parker Posey's Scream 3 Character?

Parker Posey and Courteney Cox in Scream 3

Parker Posey's Scream 3 character Jennifer Jolie has a lot of fun... At least until she gets killed by Ghostface. She loves being a famous actress and wants to get to know Gale Weathers better since she feels that will help inform her performance. Of course, prickly Gale doesn't want anything to do with her and isn't thrilled that someone else is playing her in a film franchise. Although Jennifer fights back, she dies when Ghostface stabs her and throws her through a mirror. While other Ghostfaces in the Scream franchise killed characters in gorier and more violent ways, this was still a pretty brutal way to go.

In an email interview with TooFab, Posey talked about playing Jennifer and said:

"I'm glad to hear she's beloved online. I think the fans like the part because I was funny and irreverent. And also, getting to see Gale doubled by an actress playing her added layers to the enjoyment of the last of the trilogy."

Scott Foley, who played Roman Bridger in Scream 3 and is reprising his role in Scream 7, told The A.V. Club that Posey would read him poetry while they filmed the third movie, which is fun to hear about.
