Items can be vital to surviving battles in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, so it's in a player's best interest to be prepared for any situation by having a good stock on hand. However, many people can feel stifled by the amount of inventory space given to them, despite one of the newly added features to the remake being expanding the base number from 10 items to 15 items. Luckily, if players are seeking to stretch that number even further, there is an upgrade waiting for them deep beneath the sewers of Rogueport.

While technically, players can increase their inventory size at any point during their playthrough of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, many will find more success waiting until about halfway through the story. The upgrade lies deep within the Pit of 100 Trials, where Mario will need to fight through 50 floors of enemies to reach it.

The main entrance to the Pit of 100 Trials can be found adjacent to the Thousand-Year Door, able to be reached through a doorway on the left side of the door's room. Players can heal up and save before plunging below, as there are no Save Blocks or beds on any of the floors. Occasionally, Charlieton has a chance to appear on every 10th floor, but with his outrageously inflated prices, players should bring their own items with them.

Even if players out-level the enemies on a floor, they won't be able to use the First Attack badge to quickly skip combat; Mario will need to win the battle on each floor and can't progress until he wins.

For an easier journey, it's recommended that players are around Level 15 before trying to reach the 50th floor. However, if they are at a lower level, they should expect to level up quite quickly as they traverse the pit, restoring their HP, FP, and Star Power along the way, provided they can survive the ordeal.

As with each 10th floor within the pit, players will find a large chest waiting for them on Floor 50. Inside, Mario can obtain the Strange Sack, allowing him to carry up to 20 items at once. Although 20 is not as large a jump as it was in the original version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, it still provides players with significantly more breathing room in their inventory.

For players still unsatisfied with the inventory space, there are unfortunately no other upgrades to be earned. If they find themselves with too many items to keep track of, they always have the option to store any extra items (up to 32) with any shop in the game. The storage space is a shared inventory between all shops, so they remain accessible all across the world map.
