Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is a remake of the classic 2004 role-playing game of the same name that was initially released on the GameCube. It follows the adventures of Mario in a two-dimensional world as he tries to retrieve Princess Peach from the clutches of a mysterious alien group known as X-Nauts. The game was well-received and won "Role-playing Game of the Year" at the 2005 Interactive Achievement Awards. Since a Paper Mario: Thousand-Year Door remake was announced, anticipation has been slowly but surely growing, with many eager to get their hands on the game that may have been released before their time.

However, reports are coming forward that Nintendo is canceling pre-orders of the game. Twitter user @Adampro941 shared that their pre-order was canceled by Walmart, and since then it's come forward that other users have also had their physical pre-orders canceled by the retailer. This isn't the first time this has happened to Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door specifically either, as Amazon canceled pre-orders for a variety of games earlier this year with Paper Mario being among them. Now, physical retailers such as Walmart are also canceling pre-orders of the remake, with the only reason cited being that Nintendo is "only offering them in stores."

This news comes as a bundle of confusion for many fans, especially as no distinct reason is being given as to why the pre-orders are being canceled. The one constant among fans, however, is that they aren't happy with it.
