What makes Palworld unique from the other monster-capturing titles is that it also incorporates elements from the survival genre. Players can eat and gather resources to survive the islands and their dangerous inhabitants, but one of the more interesting mechanics comes in the form of crafting. All the armor, accessories, and weapons that are in Palworld can be created, and they surely provide an edge in combat. While the crafting mechanic is useful, it's arguably lacking in some areas and could go further.
Crafting has become an essential aspect of many games in the survival genre, and Palworld is no exception. The ability to create powerful weapons that will aid in eliminating potential hostiles is important in a game that constantly throws them at the player. But as far as the mechanic goes, it doesn't have much depth. Once players gather the necessary resources and create what they want, there's not much to go from there. Pocketpair could stand to improve how crafting works, modifying it in ways that will make it more compelling while making more use of the game's many resources.
How Palworld Can Make Weapon Crafting More Engaging and Engrossing
While players can get satisfaction upon reaching certain technology thresholds and unlocking the ability to craft some of the best weapons in Palworld, there is a way for the game to take that a step further. With how crafting currently operates, people tend to create what they want and then ignore it until the need for better equipment arises. Some changes can be made so that players continue to utilize the mechanic even after acquiring what they need:
- Let players create attachments for different weapons, allowing them to upgrade important aspects such as firing rate and damage and give them a new aesthetic
- Provide the ability to infuse weapons with Pal drops, allowing them to do elemental damage but at the cost of a few setbacks like higher recoil or longer reload times
- Allow players to use different materials when repairing weapons in Palworld, which could result in faster degradation but gives players a quicker and easier fix
Such modifications will improve crafting and make it play a bigger role within the game. Pocketpair just has to ensure that it's balanced enough so that players don't end up only using weapons during combat, as Pals are still the main attraction and shouldn't be overshadowed.
How Changing Palworld’s Weapon Crafting Can Lead to Other Improvements
If a few changes could improve the method of making weapons in the game, it could do the same for other items, such as the Spheres or the outfits in Palworld. How they're made can also be modified to make them more than just one-time craftables. For example, outfits can be altered to have different styles using materials in the overworld or drops from Pals, changing their benefits and looks. It is a way to help deepen all the other aspects that involve in-game creation, ensuring that players have more to do and sink their time into.
Changing how the crafting mechanic works is one of the best ways of helping Palworld' s weapons evolve throughout its early access. It could also be the gateway that will improve the creative process of other items, giving the game more depth. If such changes were to happen, then Palworld could become a title that many lovers of survival gameplay or ones who enjoy crafting mechanics could be drawn to, improving its popularity and ensuring its longevity.
