There is never a shortage of mystical items and Pals to discover in Pocketpair's Palworld, and its incredible open-world exploration is what has kept players enamored since the game's record-breaking launch in January 2024. All the better, its massive Feybreak DLC introduced a load of new crafting materials for players to find and make hearty use of to further bolster their characters and their Pal bases with the best technology.
One particular item in Palworld that can remain elusive if you don't know where to look is Dark Fragments. Not to be confused with the game's far more common Paldium resource, this ominous crafting material is essential for making certain high-end accessories, so finding it on Feybreak should be one of your priorities.
How to Get Dark Fragments in Palworld
To collect Dark Fragments in Palworld, you need to search for any and all Dark-elemental Pals on the island of Feybreak. Be advised that this won't work for any Dark-elemental Pals found in other island regions of the game, as Dark Fragments are a Feybreak exclusive. The Pals that encompass the outer beach and gravel areas of Feybreak are primarily ground and water types, so you'll need to travel further inland to find Dark-elemental Pals. Particular ones like Starryon can also only be found at night unless they're a boss variant.
Upon capturing or killing them with your weapon and Pal Sphere of choice (Ultimate or Exotic Spheres recommended), they will provide an average of 1-3 x Dark Fragments. As with other Pals that provide certain crafting materials, Dark Fragments are not always a guaranteed drop with every single capture or kill. However, if you're efficient in tracking as many Dark Pals as possible, you should be able to collect a sufficient amount of Dark Fragments for your efforts.
Dark Fragments can be acquired by capturing or killing the following Dark-elemental Pals. Be aware that some of them may be boss or predator variants found in open areas or dungeons on Feybreak.

While not a particularly reliable method, single Dark Fragments can sometimes lie on the ground in randomized places around Feybreak. This further incentivizes exploring the island as thoroughly as possible, as consistently engaging in random combat encounters will inevitably drain your ammo stocks that you might want to otherwise save for other challenging objectives such as the island's burly Tower Boss, Bjorn.
How to Use Dark Fragments in Palworld
While it can be difficult to accrue decent amounts of Dark Fragments in Palworld, it's a crafting material that isn't necessarily used for a wide variety of technology recipes. It's primarily used for crafting specialized items such as saddles and accessories for certain Pals and some of the dash and jumping boots for your character.
In all, Dark Fragments can be used to craft the following items. Remember that you must first unlock the schematic for the item via your Technology Menu (or Ancient Technology Menu) using Technology Points. From there, you will also need the appropriate machines built to supply all of the materials needed for the item as well as crafting the item itself.
