Palworld closed out 2024 strong with the launch of its Feybreak update, bringing plenty of fresh content to the game. On the eve of its one-year anniversary, Palworld kicked off last year strong, as it proved to be a surprising early hit. The game's blend of open-world survival and creature collection caught the attention of a lot of gamers, and the arrival of Feybreak has brought even more success. From a new island to a Terraria crossover, Feybreak is a massive update, but when it comes to fresh weapons, one is unfortunately lacking.

Feybreak greatly increases Palworld's arsenal with an exciting variety of weapons, but the Katana pales in comparison to the others on the roster. While many features in this update have brought improvements to Palworld, the Katana leaves a lot to be desired. The prospect of using a katana in the game's setting seemed like a perfect match. However, developer Pocketpair Inc. Still has some work to do in order to make it a satisfying weapon.

Palworld's New Katana Brings More Frustration Than Excitement

Early Feedback Regarding the Katana Points to Needed Improvements

The biggest frustration that has been voiced by Palworld players since the katana launched has been its limited attack. Instead of being able to hack and slash as one pleases, players can only perform a single, albeit powerful, swipe. On a Reddit page dedicated to Palworld, many players have been discussing their disappointment with the Katana. Regarding the weapon's attack style, ThePoolGuyAZ posted, "I feel like the sword is a let-down to me." User TheGameMaster067 responded, "I like having more melee weapons, but the single-slice attack isn't very nice." Similar sentiments were shared by a variety of players on the post, with many concluding that it's one of the most disappointing weapons to be featured in Feybreak.

New Weapons Added in Palworld's Feybreak Update

  • Katana
  • Makeshift SMG
  • Makeshift Assault Rifle
  • Makeshift Shotgun
  • Old Revolver
  • SMG
  • Semi-Auto Rifle
  • Semi-Auto Shotgun
  • Laser Gatling Gun
  • Plasma Cannon
  • Compound Bow
  • Advanced Bow
  • Beam Sword
  • Elemental Grenades

Clearly, the Feybreak update brings an impressive number of new weapons to help round out a player's arsenal, but the long-range weapons like the Advanced Bow have been more satisfying than the likes of the Katana. On Reddit, Exotic-Mushroom even went so far as to call the sword "unusable," since the weapon's mechanics aren't super practical.

Palworld's Katana Still Has an Upside

Despite the frustration many are experiencing with the weapon, the Katana is still quite powerful for a sword that's classified as a common item. If one can successfully pull off an attack, the Katana does a lot of damage, but getting a solid hit with it is easier said than done. It also doesn't add as much weight as a lot of other weapons, making it useful in that sense. From these fresh weapons to brand-new Pals, Palworld has brought an impressive upgrade to life, but the Katana still needs some fine-tuning if it wants to stand out among such strong features.

Following Feybreak's launch, Palworld hit over 212,000 concurrent players on Steam.

Feybreak Marks a New Chapter for Palworld

Now that Palworld has almost completed its first year, Feybreak was a powerful way to end 2024 for the game. This update promises a bright 2025 for Palworld if it continues to bring great content with its future upgrades. However, there is still plenty of room to improve, and a more satisfying katana could be a solid start. The melee weapon has the potential to be a fan favorite, but its strange single-slash attack may keep it from having a loyal following.

As the new year continues, it will be exciting to see what else is next for Palworld. While the Katana may be disappointing to some, there is at least the chance that it could be tweaked in the future.
