Palworld developer Pocketpair, alongside Surgent Studios, has revealed Dead Take, an upcoming psychological horror game set to be released in 2025. This first-person horror title promises to be so terrifying that even Palworld's community manager has refused to play it.
Horror video games may not be everyone’s cup of tea, as many offer such a terrifying experience that they become unplayable for some people. However, there is a huge community that enjoys these kinds of games—especially those where the player feels helpless in the face of constantly lurking danger. The video game medium offers plenty of ways to create a horror atmosphere to frighten the player, and first-person titles may arguably be some of the scariest because they place the player directly in the character’s shoes, limiting their field of view and increasing immersion. Some really good examples are Outlast, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, or even Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Now, a new horror game from the Palworld developer is on its way.
Pocketpair Presents Strong Defense Against Nintendo's Palworld Lawsuit
Pocketpair presents a multi-argument defense—referencing everything from Far Cry to Octopath Traveler—against Nintendo's Palworld patent complaint.
In a Twitter post, community manager John Buckley celebrated the reveal of Dead Take, a new first-person psychological horror game developed by Surgent Studios and published by Pocketpair—a studio better known for creating the massively successful Palworld. Buckley admitted that the game is so scary he couldn’t bring himself to play it, so he resorted to watching others try it out. Dead Take is set for release sometime in 2025, and Buckley said more information about the game is coming soon.
Pocketpair’s Community Manager Says He’s 'Too Scared to Play' Dead Take
The teaser for the game doesn’t reveal much—it only shows various eerie environments accompanied by spooky music that sets the tone. As for Dead Take’s Steam description, this first-person horror game puts players in the shoes of an actor who must find their friend while uncovering the secrets of an ominous mansion. The developer noted that the narrative is inspired by real experiences in the entertainment industry, which adds a sinister touch.
This single-player experience will feature object-based puzzles, where players must find and piece together video clips to understand what’s happening with their friend and the mansion. The game’s scenarios are packed with tools and props inspired by real-world film sets, while players will also come across “unsettling audition tapes and shadowy figures with the power to make or break your career.”
In addition to Buckley’s comments, the developer has also warned players that Dead Take features “implied violence; blood.” While the target audience for this game is completely different from Palworld’s, fans should keep an eye out, as Pocketpair promises Dead Take will be a great addition to 2025’s horror game lineup.
