Learning how to befriend dinosaurs in the farm sim game Paleo Pines is the first step in populating a thriving dinosaur ranch. In Paleo Pines, players come across various dinosaur species and color variations in the wild, where they can be tamed and befriended. Once befriended, dinosaurs can follow players to live on the players' dino sanctuary, helping with activities like farming, ranching, and unlocking more of the island.
However, taming dinosaurs in Paleo Pine s can feel tricky at first, as players must learn how to play the flute correctly to successfully make friends and know what the music note symbols mean. Fortunately, there are a few simple steps to get new players started making many dinosaur pals.
How To Start Befriending Dinosaurs In Paleo Pines
Although Paleo Pines is a game that lets players tame dinosaurs, players must wait until day three in the in-game calendar system until companion Lucky digs up the flute in the yard before they can get started. After testing the flute with Lucky, players should search for Mari to complete their mandatory dinosaur-taming training.
It isn't possible to befriend dinosaurs in the wild until speaking with Mari and learning the basics of taming.
Players can find Mari towards the north of Paleo Pines' map by her house or wandering the paths or fields near the surrounding area. Mari is one of the NPC resident scientists, and players can also spot her on the map via her hat-wearing avatar icon. Speak with Mari to begin the dinosaur taming process, which starts by catching their attention using the flute.

How To Play The Flute Mini-Game To Tame Dinosaurs In Paleo Pines
To befriend a dinosaur in Paleo Pines, players must use the flute to get a dinosaur's attention and then learn its friend call, a type of song that varies according to music note color and length for each dinosaur. Players should complete the following steps to tame and befriend a dinosaur using the flute in Paleo Pines:
1. Face the dinosaur from close by but not too close - otherwise, it runs away. Quickly tap the red music note button three times to get the dinosaur's attention.
2. The camera view changes to a side view, and the dinosaur reveals its friendship song. Carefully watch and copy the bubble music notes the dinosaur makes.
- Notes with no rings around them are a quick tap.
- Notes with one ring around them are a short press (half bubble).
- Notes with two rings around them are a long press (full bubble).
3. The dinosaur's friendship meter then appears. Here, the aim is to get the meter in the dark green zone of the green segment. Feed the dinosaur some food like a carrot to raise its friendship level. Press feed in the menu and select some food to give. If the dinosaur gets too excited, players can press the soothe option to calm it down, repeating as needed.
4. Once the friendship meter is in the green zone, press befriend in the menu to give the dinosaur a Poppin cupcake to seal the deal, which players can buy from Pippin in the village square. Some dinos may prefer certain flavors of Poppins, like crunchy or juicy.
5. Lastly, players can pet the dinosaur to finish the process.
6. Now successfully befriended, players can instruct the dinosaur via the flute to follow them, such as back to the ranch, to wait, return to the wilds, or continue playing their friend call to help build trust. Either way, players now have a new dinosaur buddy to care for who will stay at the player's ranch once there as long as it is kept happy and cared for.
Paleo Pines is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
