On August 8, Blizzard reminded players ahead of Overwatch 2 Season 18 that Wuyang, a new Support Hero, will receive a Hero Trial from August 14 to 18. The Overwatch 2 Hero Trial will allow players to test out Wuyang before his full release in Season 18, which is scheduled to go live on Tuesday, August 26.
The news came amid a busy month for Overwatch 2. On August 5, Blizzard unveiled a collaboration between Overwatch 2 and Nerf, which brought six weapon skins inspired by the real-world toy line and a Legendary skin for Cassidy. The collaboration between Nerf and Overwatch 2 also introduced a limited-time Nerf or Nothin' deathmatch game mode that runs until August 18. Unlike other match types available in Overwatch 2, Nerf or Nothin' deathmatches exclude Support heroes like Mercy from participating, and cooldowns are reduced by 80% to ensure games remain fast and chaotic.

Overwatch 2's Next Hero Trial Begins August 14
Although Overwatch 2's upcoming Hero, Wuyang, can't take part in the Nerf crossover, fans who want to give the game's 44th Hero a try will soon have a chance. In an August 8 social media post, Blizzard reminded fans that Wuyang's Hero Trial in Overwatch 2 begins on Thursday, August 14, and concludes the following Monday, August 18. Overwatch 2's 44th Hero is classified as a Support, and hails from China. Wuyang is a student of the Water College at Wuxing University and was originally teased under the code name "Aqua" in Blizzard's 2025 Overwatch 2 spotlight video in February. Blizzard stated that a new motion comic, a gameplay trailer, and a developer livestream would all go live in the days leading up to Wuyang's Hero Trial.
True to his code name and his school, Wuyang utilizes aquatic powers to disrupt enemy movements and heal his teammates. According to Wuyang's leaked move set, Overwatch 2's upcoming Support Hero can summon a Guardian Wave with the E key to increase his teammates' healing received and knock back enemies. For his Ultimate Ability, Wuyang can call a Tidal Blast that protects an ally or himself with a water shield that can detonate and knock down enemy targets while healing the shield's beneficiary. Other perks that Wuyang can pick from allow him to enhance his healing capabilities or increase how many water orbs he can control.
Along with Wuyang's arrival, Overwatch 2 Season 18 will include a new Mythic skin for Sojourn and changes to the game's other Heroes. All in all, August continues to be a busy and fun time for Overwatch 2 and its players.
