Overwatch 2 will make it easier for free-to-play players to unlock Ramattra and get their hands on the new Tank hero earlier in the season. Blizzard is set to launch Overwatch 2 Season 2 on Tuesday, December 6, and the headlining new addition to the free-to-play shooter will be the debut of dangerous Null Sector leader Ramattra.

Ramattra is a new Tank hero and the fourth hero to join the Overwatch 2 roster since the game launched in early access back in October. Ramattra's signature ability allows him to transform into a powerful Nemesis mode that gives him enhanced melee capabilities and even the ability to punch through shields. Narratively, Ramattra is set up to be one of the "big bads" in the Overwatch 2 universe, and his relationship with Zenyatta should prove interesting as well.

Excited Overwatch 2 players will be able to give Ramattra a try on December 6, but only if they purchase the Season 2 Battle Pass. This was the case with Support hero Kiriko as well, with players needing to reach tier 55 in the Battle Pass to unlock her. However, Blizzard has decided to make it easier to unlock Ramattra, allowing free players to unlock the new character when they reach tier 45 instead.

This was announced by Blizzard's Aaron Keller, citing data that the team collected from Season 1. Besides moving Ramattra to tier 45 of the free Battle Pass, the decision has also been made to make some of the Overwatch 2 weekly challenges easier to complete. This should make it so free players are able to unlock Ramattra in Overwatch 2 at a much faster rate than they unlocked Kiriko, but fans will have to wait for Season 2 to roll around to know for sure how much this improves the experience.

The decision to lock new Overwatch 2 heroes behind the Battle Pass has been hugely controversial, and while putting Ramattra on an earlier tier and making weekly challenges easier will help, it's unlikely to please all fans of the game. In fact, numerous replies to Keller's tweets so that there are still many Overwatch 2 players who are upset about new heroes not being instant-unlocks like they used to be, though it doesn't seem Blizzard is going to budge from it. The bright side is Ramattra will not be part of Overwatch 2 Competitive Play when he launches, so hardcore players should have plenty of time to unlock him.

Overwatch 2 is out now in early access for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
