Overwatch 2's Stadium mode launched with a wealth of new features and mechanics. Debuting in Season 16, Overwatch 2's Stadium gameplay is generating excitement for its lengthier matches, best-of-7 format, and selectable Items and Powers. Unfortunately, for better or worse, the mode is launched with only 17 of the 43 heroes available in other game modes.

Notably, the smaller roster should make it easier for newcomers to Overwatch 2 and allow veteran players to get a feel for the mode without feeling overwhelmed by the influx of information. In the future, players can expect multiple heroes per season to join Stadium's line-up, according to statements made by Game Director Aaron Keller in a recent roundtable interview with The Best War Games. Although it takes some time to port heroes from Overwatch's traditional game modes to the MMO-like experience of Stadium, Blizzard is actively listening to community feedback and player requests.

Overwatch Heroes Who Should Be Ported to Stadium Sooner Rather Than Later

Tracer

Overwatch 2 fan shares Ben 10 concept

Though it may be too early to say for certain, Cassidy appears to be excelling in Stadium, which may be at least partially attributed to the lack of Dive damage heroes in the new mode. As one of the original heroes from Overwatch's first beta, Tracer seems like one of the more optimal Dive choices to join the fray early on. Of course, it does make some sense that she isn't available at launch, particularly because after the roll-out of Perks in Season 15, she's already getting adjustments made to her kit. As one of the trickier heroes to balance in Overwatch, Team 4 will need to carefully consider what Items and Powers the speedy hero can access so as not to deeply upset the mode's equilibrium.

Winston

overwatch 2 steam mixed reviews season 15 response

Winston has consistently performed well throughout Overwatch's lifetime, though the transition from 6v6 to 5v5 in 2022 brought him further into the spotlight. Similar to D.Va, he's a tank hero that is able to dive the enemy backline while peeling for his own team when needed. With some players expressing more frustration over controversial D.Va metas than Winston, it's interesting that D.Va is available on day one of the Stadium, while Winston is not. Hopefully, the lovable gorilla will join Stadium in the near future.

Baptiste

Six of the 11 support heroes are currently available in Stadium, including Ana, Juno, Kiriko, Lucio, Mercy, and Moira. However, in a 5v5 game mode where team synergy and picks are of vital importance, it seems apparent that Baptiste should be next in line for his impressive range of utility. Though it's been some time since Baptiste was hard meta, his Perks already show potential for expansion in Stadium's Armory. Additionally, his damage output and value from Immortality Field should not be overlooked.

Doomfist

Overwatch 2 art Doomfist accidentally kills teammate

Doomfist is one of the more popular Dive tanks in Overwatch 2 due to his high skill ceiling and the opportunity for players to show off their mechanical mastery. As such, his omission from Stadium at launch may have been surprising to some. A minor Junker Queen meta seems to be currently brewing in Stadium, but when Doomfist eventually joins the mode, his arrival could alter the meta. Though tanks like Orisa and Zarya have historically been difficult for Doomfist, the potential for standout plays, perfect roll-outs, and tailored builds through Items and Powers is undeniable.

Considering that only 14 heroes were announced during Overwatch's Spotlight Event in February, and the game is releasing 17 heroes in Season 16, it's clear the team has been working at an impressive pace. Additionally, Freja is already confirmed to be joining Stadium during Season 16's midseason update, which is an impressive turnaround considering she's only just joined Overwatch's roster.
