Blizzard has long teased what fans can expect from the big Overwatch 2 Invasion update, headlined by the addition of the game's first PvE story missions. Fans can also look forward to the addition of the new PvP Flashpoint mode, as well as the debut of brand-new Support hero Illari. The most exciting detail in the latest Overwatch 2 trailer is the reveal of Illari, the game's latest Support hero. Players get a glimpse of Illari's abilities in the trailer, but Blizzard has yet to provide specifics as to what all she can do. The trailer also gives fans a fresh look at the new Flashpoint maps fans can dive into come August 10, as well as some of the skins that they can unlock in the new Season 6 Battle Pass.

The accompanying roadmap reveals what Blizzard has planned for Overwatch 2 Season 6 beyond the Invasion update on August 10. Starting August 10, players can look forward to a new limited-time event called Underworld that will update weekly from August 10 to September 5. The first iteration of the mode will take place on the popular King's Row map. Then on September 5, Overwatch 2 players can look forward to Hero Mastery missions, which provide hero-specific challenges to help players better learn how to play the game's various characters.

overwatch 2 season 6 roadmap

That's not all for Overwatch 2 Season 6. An anniversary event will kick off on September 19 and feature three weeks of limited-time game modes and cosmetics. The first week will see the return of the Battle for Olympus event, while week 2 brings back Starwatch. And finally, week 3 sees the return of Overwatch 2's Prop Hunt mode, known as Mischief & Magic.

There's been a great deal of controversy over Blizzard putting the Overwatch 2 PvE missions behind a paywall, but it's clear there's still plenty of free content coming to the hero shooter. It will be interesting to see if the Invasion update and everything else coming in Season 6 is enough to give Overwatch 2 a boost.

Overwatch 2 is out now in early access for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
